The Student Room Group

GCSE Probability Question

I got stuck while trying to solve this probability question:

In a group of students
55% are boys
65% prefer to watch film A
10% are girls who prefer to watch film B

One of these students is picked at random.
Work out the probability that the student is a boy who prefers to watch film A.

Can someone please show me how to solve this question please as I have tried but can't seem to do it.
Thanks

From the second piece of information, you can work out the % of people who prefer to watch film B. So, if 10% are girls who prefer to watch film B, what percentage of boys prefer to watch film B?

Thanks for replying,

The question doesn't say the % of boys who watch film B

Independent events: 55/100 times 65/100.

But we're given information to work out exactly how many boys prefer film A?

35% prefer film B. 10% are girls that prefer film B, so 25% are boys who prefer film B. Since 55% are boys, 30% are boys and like film A, no?
