HSBC website

Your security number is a 6-10 digit number chosen by you, which you may have already used to identify yourself to us over the phone. If you don't have a security number, call us on 08457 400 004 (or textphone 08457 125 563 or +44 1142 031106 from outside the UK) to set one up now. Lines are open 8am to 10pm every day (except Christmas day, Boxing day and New Years day ). To help us continually improve our service and in the interests of security, we may monitor and/or record your telephone calls with us.

Hope that helps, I'm trying to set mine up too. x

You'll get two numbers when you set up online banking, one starts IB, which is basically your login ID. You enter your date of birth, and three random digits from your security number. HSBC always ask for three random digits, so you shouldn't ever ever give out more than three at a time.

Yeah, you need to call them to sort out the online banking system, or alternatively go to your local branch and ask for an online banking form which they'll send off and you should get a letter back within 2 weeks giving you a little card thing with your IB number.

Regarding the free gifts, it does say in the terms and conditions that up to 28 days after your account is switched to a student account you'll receive an email detailing how to get your free gift... That's why they ask for your email address twice on the form.

Hope this helps

i applied using the student account thing as well and i didnt need to go to a branch to get any numbers..
Seeing as im british living abroad, i still qualify for it (have an account with an hsbc associate here in cyprus and have lived when i was younger in the uk) and i just filled in the form and they said they would send me a confirmation email soon (within 2 weeks) and then id have to take that email to an hsbc branch along with all the other documents (ucas, ID etc) and it would be done there and then.
Dont know when we'd get the mp4 player though or from where..
