As cocky as this comes across, I don't think I deserved to get a D in my English exam this year (B overall). I was an A and A* student throughout year 13 and my teacher even rang me a couple of weeks ago to ask if she could use my book for model answers. I got a B in the exam last year and an A in each piece of coursework.
My friend was also very good at English and he got a D in the exam. One of the English teachers checked and a lot of people got lower than expected and it just doesn't seem right to me.

Did anyone else do worse that they expected?

My sympathies. English, unlike maths and the sciences is incredibly subjective to mark. I've seen people shoot up 3 grades on an English remark, but never on a Maths remark. Ask for your script back and see what went wrong, and then ask for a remark.

Ask for a remark... Having troubles with Edexcel this year. Even though I'm worried about this remark now... That's all I could really do. I expected at least an A and so did my teachers...Got a B, need 4 UMS marks.
Also in a very subjective and essay-based subject.

Same. Got B overall. in exam got D. Unusual as I always got A´s in my previous English mocks. A lot of top English students I know have gotten low grades.I am contemplating asking for a remark. I am positive that my exam was much better but perhaps I misjudged. However, as the thread starter said: "it just doesn't seem right to me. "Would you advise a remark? I am exactly half way between a B and an A. I would need 11ums to get an A. Could it possibly go down?

I would ask for a priority script if I were you if you have time. Get one of your teachers to check it and see whether the examiner missed some of your marks. I'm doing it with one of my subjects. Don't forget about your deadlines though if your uni place depends on it.

I'm having the same problem with one of my AS history results, in similar papers in class I never had less than an A and the exam mark is far lower considering I felt the exam went fairly well. I'm in the process of trying to get a remark, also with Edexcel, it's a little bit comforting to see that other people have had the same problem.
