    Men are more drawn to the vocational courses offered at colleges, perhaps.

    Men have more immediate employment options I would assume. For the most part trades such as carpentry, construction etc are overwhelmingly male dominated and can provide a high quality of lifestyle without having to go through university. I may be wrong but there doesn't seem to be the same kind of opportunities which cater to women and so more are forced to go to university to secure employment which gives them the lifestyle they desire.
