I went last July for 3 nights... by getting a feel for the place do you mean weed and hookers and sex shops or just weed?

None of that!

I took around €250 and didn't spend all of that when I went (although I didn't go shopping and one of my mates bought a lot of my food). I reckon €300-€400 will be ample unless you are planning to do a lot of shopping.... Take €300 and a cash/credit card....

We're gonna need more than 200 pounds for 3 days? Is it really that expensive there?

Give me some idea of what you are planning to do! What sort of restaurants are you planning to go to etc How much do you plan to drink etc? I interpreted getting a good feel for the place as smoking and drinking heavily....

In terms of cost its probably cheaper than London...

you can survive from 20 euro's a day if you do it smartly but if oyu want to live it pu then i recommend 50-100 euros a day, then you can eat out, start a tab in a bar etc... any qs just msg me.. dont do any stupid touristy stuff it will be arip off, oyu can see most of the city on foot..

I tend to take the Euro equivalent of £20 a day, kept me going with food and souvenirs. Public transport in the Netherlands is much cheaper than it is in England so it's easier to get around.

Have a good time, it's a fantastic city.

Okay, can I ask you ... why is it a crime to go into town during the night wearing heels and a skirt? Seriously, I have never felt so embarassed in my whole life.

Probably something to do with the high levels of prostitution in Amsterdam.

Yeah we figured that the women there dress conservatively because they must not wanna be associated with the prostitutes ... but stopping at staring at someone in the street with looks of disgust is just plain rude.
a tenner should cover it
If you want to know anything about Amsterdam, just let me know.. I am able to help you. I live in Amsterdam
