I just found out I got accepted to TCD for History but I probably won't take up their offer because I got in to UCL and I think it's a better university. Any other offers for TCD, what does everyone think of the university?
I know little of UCL, it has a high international rating (not that trinity has a low one, definitely the best in ireland) but is it better for history? I'm not sure. Next you have to take into account which you will enjoy more? Fiscal matters etc. Being from the EU, the Irish government will pay for most of your fees. I think you'll only have to pay ~£500 a year.

With regards trinity:
I made a huge post describing it at the bottom of the first page of this thread:

A thread about irish universities:

Bit of an argument about trinity here between those in the know and those not (warning there is a lot of completely inaccurate info here):

I got an offer too! Russian and Spanish. I've since had it deferred and am applying to UK unis this year too with a view of having to decide later. I do know tho that the course at Trinity seems amazing, it's just I'm unsure about going to uni in Ireland (lived all my life in England, even tho i'm Irish and actually live in Dublin as of last month).

Got a Trinity offer for French and Russian.
Turned it down because although it's a good uni and course, I know:
a) Can't stand Dublin
b) Am actually British but have never lived in the UK.... thought it would be better to go over there
c) Can't deal with all the pompous *******s who were urging me towards Trinity

the Russian department is immense though, I met with the head of the department and she was so cool plus the course is really good!
Why don't you like Dublin? I've only been here for a few weeks and I love it:smile:

Argggggh please don't rub it in, I know the Russian department rocks. I did regret turning it down, but I just couldn't hack living in Dublin for 4 more years, it makes me want to drag my nails down my face and scratch my eyes out.
Where are you from?
Dublin, well sure it's good for going out, I'll give you that, and there's lots to do. But since the mythological Celtic Tiger, people are just ****ing rude and up their own asses. Give me Cork or Galway any day. Hell, I'd even settle for Wexford!

Well i used to live in Surrey but moved here last month. No big difference tho, my family is from Dublin so i was always over here anyway.
I haven't actually noticed anything like that in Dublin, then again I am used to living in Essex (lived there too) so most places would be an improvement people-wise!
Anywho I have a deferred place in TCD so that's always good to fall back on if my UCAS application falls through:smile:

How did you do that? The maximum possible is 600. And only 0.5% of Irish school leavers get that.

It depends on your points and whether they're higher than the minimum required for those courses. The points for those courses are not fixed, they change every year based on their popularity, so you'd have to wait and see. But you could get an idea off the CAO website.

I doubt it but you can certainly try.

TCD's admissions website says "Points for entry to TCD are calculated by the following equation: Total points gained (French Bac) / 17 x 600"

Is it just me, or is it alot easier to get into a top irish uni than a top english one? If my calculations are correct, I'd need BBBC to gain 475 points right?

At the moment yes, but they're 'equalising' leaving cert points with A Levels so although I got the equivilent of 470 points I'd get 410 points after they're done equalising.

I think it's for the 07-08 academic year.

Good, thanks alot, It also seems offers are getting lower and lower each year? Is that with an increasing number of students coming over to england?

Very much doubt that offers for TCD are getting lower, if anything it's the opposite with more English students trying to escape tuition fees.
