I have no idea where I've got this from, but apparently the university pays for all of your textbooks for your course for your first year? Is this true? I'm wondering when to buy my books, is all.

Not true, but the library has many copies of all the essential reading for all courses and many more around the subject so don't worry about buying textbooks ^_^

Depends on courses. I know physics give you the first year textbook

I think most courses, particularly in the natural sciences, do give you a textbook. Only one though.
It's usually not worth buying books. On some courses though, I would recommend buying second hand books for some of the essential reading. At my uni, those books are in high demand and you can only loan them for like 6 hours at a time.
