Has anyone turned down a place at Oxbridge, and if so, why?

Why would anyone want to turn down Oxbridge?

I briefly considered turning down my Cambridge offer in favour of a Durham offer, because I was worried that the Cambridge students would all be really posh and clever and therefore not like me...but in the end I accepted Cambridge (and got in!) because I reasoned that if I could get the grades then I'd be OK. I haven't started yet but judging by the people I've met who are doing my course, I'm hoping I'll fit in nicely

Also, I think for some people, the courses at other universities are preferable, for example I have a friend who got A*A*AA and so would probably have had a good chance if she'd applied to Cambridge, but decided not to as she preferred the course at Bristol.
Two of my friends did: One for financial reasons, as he had a full scholarship at Southampton and the other had a place for the following year but she didn't want to wait so she went to Imperial.
