    Hi everyone,

Does anyone have any experience when it comes to applying to another university whilst you're doing first year at another university?

Why are you considering this? You need to contact the new university directly - you don't apply through UCAS.

    A number of reasons:
The sentimental reason (& the least important reason) is that I missed out on my place because I was 2 marks short.

    Location
For the foreseeable future, my family and I will be in difficult financial circumstances. My "current" university will have expensive living costs. I will not get much assistance from my family who are already in the lowest earning bracket. Also I may have to care for some family member which means I need to go to a university close to my family.

    Thanks for the reply.

Are you hoping for a fresh start or a transfer into the second year?

I have emailed Warwick and only Cambridge mathematicians will be allowed to transfer to Warwick due to prerequisites required for 2nd year core modules. I guess I'm hoping for a fresh start then..

For anyone interested, I don't think it's possible to transfer to Oxbridge either.

Transfers into second year are typically going to be difficult because no two universities teach the first year in the same way, so you're unlikely to have the appropriate background to go straight into the second year somewhere else (although some unis can obviously be more flexible than others on this, especially if they're less competitive or have lower standard entrance requirements).Transfers into Oxbridge are pretty much a no-no since nowhere else is going to give you the right preparation for such an intensive course.

Sorry to hear about your circumstances, but I think the best thing is going to be a fresh start for you!
