lol who cares if medics socialise with non-medics, whats the big deal?
Btw, will we get a imperial college (non-medical) student freshers handbook or similar info etc..?

yes you will, at the same time as everyone else at Imperial.

yey I'm glad to hear you are sociable after all!
That's why you want to make friends with lots of non-medics in first year, because you have all the time in the world to get to know your fellow medics from 2nd year upwards

All of my mates and I made loads of non medic friends and went out with a nice selection. It's a bit insulting to say all medics are 'antisocial' or 'unfriendly' because it's simply not true. Don't think I went to the reynolds except for the organised major events (things like comedy) because it's a bit of a dump.

Personally I got the passport but didn't goto all the medic events (the ones I did goto mind you were SENSATIONAL). It saves a lot of hassle in the fortnight trying to get tickets etc. and some events have a limit of how many people can go (eg. boat party), even if it is a bit expensive.
has someone worked out how much you save with the passport because if its a lot (like 50%) then it would still be a bargain even if you didnt go to all the events.

why are non medics so keen on breaking the medics clique? probably cos of the lack of females elsewhere in imperial

Lol to be honest I have yet to meet an Imperial medic on TSR who actually follows the so-called 'clique' which everyone seems to tirelessly bring up! I'm sure everyone of us wants to meet the people that are gonna be in our own course (since you'll be spending the next few years worth of lectures with them so you'd want to get to know them better) but that doesn't mean you can't socialise and meet people outside your course. Most of the medics on here seem more interested in breaking the clique than actually meeting other medics :P

I'm not keen to break them up. I just enjoy bashing them once in a while.
Also you will find that quite a few of the old hand...old typing fingers on this forum are/have once been/is going to be a reapp. Which means we had to make sure people socialized with each other. The group that invariably ends up least socialble, at least from the outside is the medics.
For some reason Pembridge worked out quite nicely last year, before someone bashes me...>_<

in time honoured fashion, there is always some sort of breakaway.

The medics in Beit this year were mostly really sociable and we had a fantastic group of freshers, but at the end of the day, most of my medic friends have all ended living with each other!

Hopefully with enough information beforehand, we can gradually turn the cliqueyness around... people have the best intentions to socialise with everyone, but it's difficult when you join a medics only freshers week. Hence my warning.

it's a well known fact that when people are divided into groups, even for absolutely trivial reasons, rivalry and in-group bias occurs.

http://www.holah.karoo.net/tajfestudy.htm - brilliant study on this.

I've rarely met a sober medic :p:
Right, sounds like sound advice to me. I reckon I'll buy the pass for the medic's Ball, in case that gets sod out, but i'll just play everything else by ear and try to go to afew of all the events - Hall, ICL and Medic's. Besides, quite a few of the events advertised on the fresher's pass were free anyway.
The more different people are the more interesting they are. Hence I want to get to know non medics more so. I'd go crazy hanging around with other meds all the time.
