Just thought I'd start a thread for people interested in continuing/starting riding up at aber, and planning on using the Uni's horses... seeing as there were quite a few people interested on one of the other threads... Kyana(is that spelt right!?!?) for example...
I went to a local riding school and took part in some county and local competitions... I once won a rosette for show jumping (at least, I was proud at the time )
If I recall correctly, I also went on several week-long courses where I learned tack and turnout, grooming and mucking out as well as actually riding. I mostly rode mid-sized animals, there were only a few smaller ponies and by then I was too big for them, but I remember riding one big old mare called Annie, she was very slow but so lovely to ride
so you can definately do all the basics then :d (and a bit extra by the sounds of it!!)
I haven't done any cross country since i left pony club.. (at least two years ago... *cough*) but i do do quite alot of dressage and showjumping, and used to regualry help up at the stables i used to ride at before i went to my current one (my old one became only livery).
I wanna take up horse riding again when I go to Aber. I quit about 5 years ago. I only got up to canter and I've never jumped before. I didn't have my own horse or access to a loan one, just one 1 hour lesson once a month. Do you think I'll need to buy my own hat again? (I out grew my last one )
I'm looking to ride. I share a pony, but haven't ridden regularly since before study leave because Gyp's injured a foreleg.
I've become more a happy-hacker really, and I probably look dreadful riding at the moment! I could seriously do with some lessons to get my riding up-to-scratch! Having said that though, I'm more than happy to go tootling off round the countryside, trying to find nice stretches to have a bit of a canter on. I can stick on (touch-wood!), just probably not with much style at the minute!
I'm a horsey person at heart though. I'm going to have my own Fell pony one day, I've already decided that In the meantime, any equine will do, although preferably small and scruffy. Native ponies are the best
mmm Natives.... my dream horse is a 15.2 Welsh section D *drooool* maybe one of the college horses will be a welsh, and maybe they'll have a fell aswel!
Just an idea, but would it be a good idea for us maybe to get a group sort of lesson together? what do you think?
"As a large club in the university we are able to offer our members a wide range of options; from individual lessons to the opportunity and BHS stages, to compete as part of a team at local level, and beyond, as well as a lively social network with regular nights out and trips. The club runs it?s own Winter Show jumping and Dressage League for both Club members and non-members, bringing close links with the local riding community. Our committee members work hard to provide both a trouble-free and exciting experience for all from the novice rider and those that have been riding for years!!"
I remember ages ago looking at that website but it had so much more info, with pics and things. As soon as I thought about going to Aber, I wanted to know if it had a riding club!
I want to know where the lessons are though! I'm terrible - I can't wait two weeks! And I also want to know my timetable for lectures/tutorials etc now too!
