tendons in the hand

Has anyone had a problem with their hand tendons here? Mine messed up before exams and as it was my right hand, which i write with -the exams just made it worse. It gets better and then something happens like i pick up a bag and then it becomes painful. The pain is mainly about an inch above my wrist and if i place my finger along it i can feel it is sore and the pain can sometimes be felt in the arm if a lot of work is done via the hand. My doctors an arse and first said i was making it up, then the locum just sent me of 2 hospital 4 a blod test incase it was young artheritus-as we couldnt figure the cause. I hate blood tests and i know it wasnt early artheritus so i never went. What have other people done to help it-any suggestions and info would be helpful. Thanks:confused:

I would suggest going for the blood test. I know they are not pleasant, but at the end of the day they are the medical experts and not you. Even if they are wrong and there is no early arthiritis, at least it will force them to continue looking at the problem and hopefully make things more comfortable for you.

It's not just RSI is it?

I have awful tendonitis in my right arm, caused by an accident I had last year. Ive had anti inflammatories for it and painkillers, but it doesnt really help.

Make sure you keep your hand moving, do stretching exercises. If it continues, go back to your Gp. They might be able to give you a steroid injection to help.

Yeah mine are really bad at the moment in my right hand but this is because i broke my wrist and my cast just came of a couple of days ago. I guess its due to the fact that i havent moved my wrist in two months rather than any serious problems. The doctor said ust to do some exercises. i.e. put your palms together and raise up your elbows and do the pposite with the back of my hands. Dont know if thats helpful but i know what a pain it is to not be able to use your main hand.

I refused to believe I had early the early stages of arthiritis and I do, and now my knees are messed up completely and sometimes they go completely numb and I can't stand up or walk. Get a blood test before you can't write properly! It could be tendonitis or RSI, but you are so much better off knowing, especially as you have already been referred to the hospital, please dont mess up like I did:frown:

I have a huge phobia of blood tests i know its rather that then have problems. I just get v worked up b4 them, had one when i was younger except i wasnt told and b4 i knew it there was a needle in me and i was screaming. Dnt wna gt all freudian but im absolutely terrified. I dont know what RSI is! The locum doctor gave me ibuprofeen but i swear it made no difference...then i just stopped taking them. Maybe i should go back. He was so rude he put his hands on mine and acts like hes done a majic trick and says "all healed". I wasnt sure if i shd move my hand alot or not so ive tried to keep it still but sounds like i shd have kept it moving. Ill try the actions-when i put my palms together i can feel tesnion in the right hand. I think texting cant be good even though im not a big texter. If there any signs of artheritus surely id feel pain in other places apart the hand and arm on the right for me. Soz i write so much-do english again this isnt good 4 that either!thanks by the way youve all been really helpful

I hate needles too, but I've had to experience them several times over the last year, with wisdom teeth removals, and also a few blood tests as well. I've learned to deal with it now, though. I literally just look away and sqeeze something tight in my free hand whilst reciting something in my mind, and it's bearable.
Try having the blood test. It's not that bad as you think. You could ask your doctors if you have carpal tunnel syndrome. This is where tendons in the hand are too tight so they can get 'trapped' in the hand, causing pain and restricted movement until they go back to normal, or, they are too tight to cope with activities such as a lot of writing/typing or carrying things, and they are made sore. This is a bit like RSI, but is the tendons not being able to cope with something that they should be able to.

ok i will, ill book an appointment with the doctor and ill try nt 2 get 2 angry with him as he talks 2 me as if its all my fault. But yeh thank you anyways you've been helpful...more helpful than ne1 else. The carpal things sounds perhaps right so maybe. Still worried about the blood injectn and i know theres alot worse things but ive over dramatised it and its liek worst case scenario. Neways thanks u
