I've been following the Israel/Gaza situation like most people. I'm not intending to turn this into a left/right debate, though I have seen a number of Socialist Worker banners in these protests. However, it's certainly apparent that a lot of people are staunchly defending their actions when people stand up for Jews.
This reminds me of the actions of the EDL, proclaiming at every opportunity that they're only against 'extremism' and they're not racist at all etc, while chanting racist abuse, going round bricking mosques etc. Now we have pro-Gaza supporters and protesters reiterating every five minutes "we're not against Jews, only Zionists" - while attacking shops and calling for boycotts, with anti-Semitic crime up by nearly half. Sound familiar?
These boycotts... are you going to throw away your computer? Your mobile phone? Stop flying? Of course you're not, because you yourself benefit from these things, sheer hypocrisy by the same sort of people who protested against capitalism while sitting in Starbucks on their iPhones.
You think just because you're not attacking black people or Muslims that makes it all okay? Is it some sort of misguided support for the underdog? Or are you just racist?
