Hey there,

I am just applying for Camp at the moment. What position have you gone for?

Did you have a long wait before you heard you had an interview?

I was like this, but then figured if I want to and in a few years will never have anything like this opportunity again, why not at least give it a go.

hmmm, so who's better? CA, CCUSA or Bunac?

waiting for my CA broshure to come. also I (hopefully) going to be out of the country after Xmas at some point. If I apply now, do you think that may be a problem?

Had my interview today... started off a bit shaky and even somehow managed to make it sound like I would shout at kids to stop them being naughty before redeeming myself!

Been accepted though!

What sort of questions did they ask you?

I can't decide whether to apply through Camp America or BUNAC, or whether to be a counsellor or CamPower type thing!

From what I can gather, you end up with quite a bit more money at the end of it with BUNAC.

:ditto: I have heard it is much better to apply through BUNAC.

Guys... I've setup some forums for people to discuss Camp America because I haven't seen any about!

Please check them out... I think they'll come in handy perfectly for people like us wanting to go.

Also spread the word... the more people that know about them the better! You have to register but it's quick and easy and you don't need to activate your account!

Unofficial Camp America Community

SCUSA and Bunac can also be discussed here.

From what I know, Camp America are the best to go with for your 1st time, but then Bunac every other time afterwards!

I'm really tempted to apply for next year's camp america/ccusa...the trouble is I'm not a huge kid person (I do like them but I don't feel any urge to look after them all summer), so I'd go for a support staff position. Do you think it'd be worthwhile or is it just basic slave labour doing the dirty work for 9 weeks?

hiya guys, i was indecisive too, do i stay home and earn money or eave my friends and go away risking not liking it, not knowing n e 1 and having the worst time of my life for three months, big decsion.

i came back 2 days ago and i had the best summer ever! met some of the most funnest people and seen some amazing stuff and the beauty of it was that it hardly costs anything, (till i blew it all in new york! ) i'd highly reccomend going, i'm going to go again for sure. i've got some americans coming over to stay with me soon, you make some great friends. its a big decision but its worth the risk... (i went with bunac - i was literally spoon fed ! its a brilliant service)

I'm thinking about applying with Camp America. Do you think it's best to apply now or go to a camp fair where you can find a place that day?

lil_lloyd did you find making friends easy at camp? Did you travel round America with people you met at camp? That part really appeals to me but I think I'd be spoilt to choice about where to go!

I was exactly the same "should i/shouldn't i"? I'm so glad i went for it now! Even though i got a last minute placement, I had the most amazing summer working at a girls scout camp in new york - like lil_lloyd said, i met the most amazing/funny people and saw so many amazing sights! I also blew most of the money i earnt in new york city! The only difference was that i went with camp america, not bunac, the pay isn't that geat but you manily go for the experience! I'm applying this year and if i go with camp america again i get paid three times as much as last year, which is a bonus!

i'd deff advise anyone thinking about going to just go for it!

Its the most amazing experince...give it a go! I have been through BUNAC and CCUSA I would recomend these over CA

I can't urge you all enough to go and do this, fantastic experience.

I have one of my friends from camp coming over and staying with me for a couple of days whilst she tours the UK. It'll be great to see her again after 13 months.

Very often, because camp is such an enclosed community, your colleagues more than every job in the world will see you in every situation, where you're strong, weak, tired, angry, over-come with emotion, the lot.

You can't underestimate how much the experience of going to camp, even just for one season, will impact your life. :p:
