The Student Room Group

Just send them a signed letter or go to your Natwest branch and ask them to convert it back. If they ask you why you are not banking with them, just say you're not going to university and so are not eligible for a student account. That way, everyone's happy. There's no minimum term, by the way.

They may ask you to give back the freebies if you've only had it opened a short amount of time

They can't make you give back gifts, as it would break the definition of the word "gift".

No, they're not "gifts". They're an incentive to open the account. There may be bits in the T&C's that say you have to keep the account open for a minimum term and use it

What do you think they can do, raid your house to find their missing MP4 player?

The incentive is for opening your account, not for maintaining it for x months. If it was the latter, they'd offer the gift after x months had passed, not before.

Well, Barclaycard charge you if you close your account before a time has passed.

And Natwest offer the 5 year railcard on a yearly renewal, so if you don't use the account you don't get to keep your railcard

I got nothing off HSBC so when I go and close that (before I go) they can get in the bin.
