Like hype said, a bad diet cannot really affect genes in the sense of disruption or mutatons. But there are certain factors in diet which can regulate the expression of genes. One example is vitamin A. This vitamin, present in normal diet, can bind to certain receptors in the nucleus and increase or decrease the expression of various genes (this is only an example of diet components regulating gene expression!)

"Bad" is not very specific but yes diet can switch off genes, methylate dna etc.
