How leaniant are Reading about Archaeology?

I've got a genuine passion for this subject and I'm planning to study it to the max, as in, masters and high levels because I find it brilliant and amazing.

Is it worth it to try and risk putting Reading as a first option if my predicted grades are 1 grade less than the entry requirements e.g BBC when offers are at BBB?
Thing is, I chose difficult A-Levels (maths, physics, chemistry and psychology) and I got a CDDE and my predicted grades will be BBC-BCC, would they prefer me over other students who chose general studies, history etc like soft subjects or do they not care about subjects just grades?

P.S. I know my subjects don't really match archaeology and the reason for this is because the subjects I wanted to do weren't offered at my college and the careers advisor told me to do these subjects (dumb IKR)

(BTW. posting for a friend )

HI! I'm going into my third year doing archaeology; I received BBC and was still given a place... The same is true for the majority of my archaeology friends, some of who did pure science subjects I got the impression that they preferred passion and interest during my interview!

Also, I know I'm plugging now, but we have a fantastic society (RUined) where most of us have made our closest friends and the opportunities for excavations and other archaeological ventures are beyond fantastic... Reading is a good university to go for

Thanks for your reply!
if you don't mind me asking, what subjects did you choose for your alevels?

Say if I get around the BBC or BCC predictions, would they give me an offer or an interview?

Do they give interview to all applicants?

Are there loads of applicants for the first year?

Sorry for all the questions!
