EMS at LiverpoolWatch
This is my first post here! I am starting at Liverpool Vet School in September, and I was just wondering how much EMS/work experience type stuff you have to do in your first year? What kind of thing do you have to do?
As for all vet schools you will need to do:
12 weeks preclinical EMS (which is farm work including pigs, lambing, dairy and poultry, stables, catteries/kennels, etc. where you are learning about basic husbandry and handling)
2 weeks public health (abattoir/diagnostic lab/butchers)
24 weeks clinical EMS (equine, farm and small animal vet practices)
Liverpool encourage you to do a mix of clinical and preclinical from 1st year. You will need to do around ~8 weeks per academic year.
Liverpool have a database of placements where previous students have gone to, but it is down to you to organise everything yourself; they will chase you up if you're not doing enough placements etc.
Hope this gives you a rough idea!
