Stupid headteacher might have cost me a good friend.

I am so annoyed, after A2 results day i wanted a remark of a piece of coursework. I am pretty close to the teacher who marked it in school, and i trusted her when she told me it was a high A, so when it came back a low B I felt I had to question it. I spoke to her first, and she agreed with me, so i went in to school to get it sorted. The head wasn't particularly helpful, and got annoyed when my mum asked him if it was actually a B, were the department at fault in any way. I defended my teacher, I trust her to have done what she thought best for me. So now I find out speaking to her on the phone (she has been away on hols) that he phoned her and told her I had blamed it all on her and said i didnt trust her ability to teach/mark effectively! Anyway i told her the truth but i dont know if she believed me, she seemed sceptical. Now i dont know what advce i want here but i am so upset, she was more of a good friend than in teacher in y13, and more so since i left school. Now i am afraid she will not trust me and it is all his stupid fault, and he was LYING! Just really need to rant i HATE him if he has ruined this friendship!

wel the thing is though, that if you are good friends shell know that you wont have slagged her off! Plus if you explain to her why you were pissed off im sure shell understand, and help you! Plus it doesnt mean youre having a go at her, it means that it needs to be remarked by te exam board, shell know that if shes a teacher.

No but the trouble is it came back and it IS a B, so technically her marking wasnt totally right, BUT i dont blame her for this in any way, but when I spoke to her just now she didnt seem to believe me.

Hey calm down, go find him and kick his ass!

Sometimes with coursework moderators mark it down and up-depnding on how the rest of the year as a whole did methinks.

Tell the teacher straight your conerns, the head cant ruin a friendship if it is a good one. Im sure the teacher has seen problems like this before.

Good luck

Have you thought of the fact that the coursework may have been moderated? Exam boards collect a sample of coursework from each subjects and assess the quality of the marking, is they thought it was too generous, the entire classes coursework marks are lowered, so she may have been generour when she said it was a high A (maybe without knowing she'd over marked it).
To be fair you've told the truth to your teacher/friend and theres not much else you can do other than that to rectify the situation.

This coursework is ALL marked by the board, not just a sample. The school simply tell you what they expect it to get. I was told to expect close to 100%. She wouldn't knowingly over mark it - although that is what she thinks i have said about her, and the track record is excelent, in the past predictions have been spot on. Thats why it is such a difficult situation. I know there is nothing more i can do but i really dont want to lose her friendship, and i am astounded the head would say that to her!

Hmmm seeing as essays can be very subjective, maybe she did genuinely think it was 100% etc etc but the examer who marked in thought your veiw was wrong/unfounded etc etc. If i were you i'd definatly get in remarked, and tell your friend what you've just told me, that your shocked the headteacher said that to her (maybe the headteacher interpreted your worries wrongly), and just start gaining trust back/sucking up to her!

We have no reason to blame the teacher as she has had amazing results in coursework in past years and was convinced that our class was equal if not better than ones pervious.

BTW History_Is.. is my girlfriend and we are both in the same boat. My CW was predicted as an A/B; a B on a bad day if the examiner was in a bad mood. Mine came out as a C.

I think you are going a little over the top here 'History is...'

Thats definitely the way to go.

Really , Make sure she understands that you didn't blame it on her even though she really is the only one to blame.

I think you're justified in what you're saying. There's a mutual respect between you and your teacher and that's in jeopardy because your head intentionally or unintentionally got his wires crossed.

something similar has happened to me. my teacher told me he felt i need not improve my cwk for huiman bio as i had almost full marks and the examiners will never accept full marks anyway so there was no point as i was safe.

it came back a C.
my friend was promised a B and got an E
another girl told she got a B came out with a U.

we don't want to complain as ouir teacher is such a dude and we didnt want it to reflect on him. we all got into uni, only two of us our first choice and another through clearing who's joining me at herts.

Since when have students been able to ring their teachers  ???

Sorry, in my day (oh feel old!) that would have been classed as 'crossing the teacher-student boundary' ...

Um, she's an adult, she'll understand that what the head is like and I doubt will hold it against you...

Marking coursework isnt an exact science.
You did say that your mum asked the head if the dept. were to blame, maybe this is what he has fed back to your teacher.
You have explained your side of things, leave it at that and see what happens as regards frienship.
