Headlice

heeelllppp they won't go away!
i've tried everything over the counter, i've tried nit-picking, wetcombing, drycombing, oil, vinegar, various hair masks and henna...
i've even had my friends and family check and clean their hair.

i REALLY dont want to shave my head and it is the MOST humiliating thing when you think you've gotten rid of them, go for a haircut and the hairdresser tells you you've got them!

am going to uni in a couple of weeks too; i really want to get rid of these things, does anyone have a tried and tested method they could possibly share?

Just keep putting conditioner on your hair and combing through. You need to do it every day and keep it up for at least 2 weeks.

i've tried most of the over-the-counter stuff... all the "full marks" and "lyclear"

what's it called?

doctors then for something stronger

Are you sure you followed the instructions correctly on the over the counter products? Perhaps go and visit your GP and ask him, he might be able to prescribe you something, maybe a stronger product or something i'm not too sure just a thought! Good luck getting rid of them!

thanks.
i guess thats the best thing to do now
The only thing i would say is its the EVIL EGGS!

The bugs are eaiser to get rid of because they are larger etc. However, the eggs are small and stick to your hair so i guess they may be hatching and reproducing afterwards.

This means you must 1st get rid of all the lice, ask someone else to TRY and get rid of all the eggs. (by the neck and behind ears are their fave places to lay eggs). You may want to put loads of conditionor on for this so they slide off easily.

Then keep doing this every one to two days so that the newly hatched ones are caught and hopefully wont have the chance to lay many eggs, if any.

GOOD LUCK.
my little sis is in primary school so gets them fairly regualrly!! but surely after using all that full-marks stuff etc theyd be gone??? otherwise i guess go to the docs... keep combing every day as well. dont shave it off- i heard that they can even survive when there isnt any hair aah nasty buggers arent they

when i had them, i remember my mum kept going through it with a fine pick comb (or something like that). its a special headlice one and the bristles are really close together so that they catch the lice. Actually it doesnt tend to catch the lice, it tends to kill them in your hair (not very nice! but it works). i cant remember the name of the shampoo i used, but if the normal ones arent working, like other people said - go to the doctors for a stronger one.

good luck!

Janine's right, it's the eggs.
put a ton of conditioner on your hair, comb it through, get the beasties, then enlist the help of a friend to go through your hair really really thoroughly, and get every egg out.
i warn you potentially this could take hours, you need to be that thorough.
when youve done that, use another headlice lotion, ask your pharmacist what they'd recomend as they become resistant to some lotions so find out whats effective in your neighbourhood at the minute.
at the same time you do this you MUST wash all your tops, bedsheets, pillow cases, hats, cushion covers, any soft furnishing/ item of clothing that has been in contact with your head, and disinfect all your combs/hairbrushes.

Good luck!
When I was younger, I had really long hair, and managed to catch nits - I tried loads of things, but getting someone to comb through and remove the eggs is very sensible, especially with the conditioner. Keep doing this for a few days after you've used anti-nit shampoo, and it'll probably be more effective. The shampoo that finally got rid of mine was incredibly strong - I was huddled up on the bathroom floor complaining, 'Mum, I can't breat- *cough, cough, cough, splutter*'. Provided that you survive the shampoo experience, then it's good stuff.

Don't shave your head. You shouldn't need to, and it probably won't improve matters.
eugh nits.....reminds me of HOURS in the bath having my hair looked at :frown:

and yes thats the thing....you have to do it for hours every night :frown:

Shave your head....that's always the best cure.
quasia chips are a natural remedy for headlice and work really well. It's great for when you need to repeat treatments because it's a little gentler and doesn't lead to hair loss
Yes, important point lolly. You must wash everything!! No point getting everything out and then sleeping on a contaminated pillow.
egghhh my sister has headlice at the mo, shes had them for months and months now, shes 10, my god she has alot, and weve tried EVERYTHING!! fullmarks is ****e dont waste your money on it, erm, i think the only way to get rid is wash your hair as much as possible and basically pick them out, as for the eggs well my god they are impossible to get out, they are stuck to the strands of her hair, nit combs dont work either, neither does vinegar or anythin like that, im taking her to the doctors this week as its the only option left really unless she just lives with them forever and that aint nice :frown:
