Failed MSc module resit. Expected merit

Hello,
I am studying for an MSc, and while my expected overall grade will be >60, and my dissertation is going pretty good, I am 95% sure that I failed hard at the one resit I had.
What is going to happen now?

Is there a possibility that I will be able to make an objection to a committee or something and they would spare me this one module, due to the overall good performance? Or is it plain and simple; the rules are the rules, you failed, take this diploma or pay for next year?

Firstly, try not to panic. It's easy to think you've done worse than you actually have.

However if the worst happens, I don't think there's much you can do. Certainly there's no way of asking for mercy because your other results were good. You need to pass a set number of credits to gain a Masters, and if you don't then you fail. Unless you have extenuating circumstances (which you should have declared at the time) or you're alleging some sort of marking/assessment error, you won't have grounds for an appeal. You can't appeal just because you disagree with a mark. You may be offered the lesser PG Cert, but this isn't an option at some unis and the ones that do might only give it if you passed your taught modules but failed the dissertation.

The rules and regs will be clearly set out for your uni. Most of them are online if you dig around hard enough. I'm not sure retaking a taught module was an option on mine - you either passed in that year or you left without a qualification. Each uni can set its own rules though, so find them for yours.

Just to clarify, the PgCert equals 60 credits of taught modules - there's the PgDip equaling 120 credits of taught modules which is what you are referring to.

So, the OP could still get a PgCert, but even for the PgCert you may have had to pass specific modules.

Once you do get the results and they're as bad as you think they are, you need to see your programme leader and discuss your options.

There is such a thing called a CONDONEMENT OF FAILURE (CP - Condoned Pass) where the University can exercise their right and give a pass to someone who has performed well throughout the course but failed in a certain module. This has recently happened in a course which I am taking. The unfair thing which has happened is that the University has exercised their right to give this CP to a student who has scored a lesser mark than I and obviously others on the course. I wonder how many other students they have failed yet they have managed to pass people of lesser marks. Does anyone have a good idea as to how this should be approached with the Uni?

What does the course guidebook say?
Ours does something similar. I think you can hardly complain about a policy you should have been aware of. And the person's grades will be on their transcript, and possibly even the fact that it was a condoned pass.

So how did it go in the end for you? I realize its an old post but unfortunately I'm in a similar position with a resit coming up in July (only with good grades on everything else so far)
