My last 4 gf's have all been straight A*'s at GCSE and straight A's at A-level while I struggled getting 4 A's at GCSE and managed average A-levels, but generally I have found that though the girls are more intelligent they do not have any common sense or street smarts.

Ditto. I have found exactly the same thing. E.g. a straight A* girl not being able to read a map, or know how to put petrol into a car.

Some people's definitions of 'intelligence' are seriously screwed up.

There's a difference between academic abilitiy and intelligence. Anyone can get 10A* at GCSE if they really want to, all you have to do is sit down and do the work.

whats pragmatic and whats attractive can be different things. i think the job centre guy is more likely to be attracted to a bath nd some money as oposed to the intelligent conversations he'd have with his barrister, so its not really intelligence thats attractive, its not even really the woman that is attractive, merely the bath

no... the attracton for the job centre guy to intelligence is implicit rather than explicit. He doesn't specifically want intelligence, but he is damned if he is going to find what he really wants without it being there.

I thoroughly disagree, a decent amount of natural ability is undoubtedly needed in addition to a lot of work. And surely by getting 10 A*s someone has shown themselves to have enough pragmatism to at least manage their time effectively?

I think the caricature of the boffin who gets 100% in all exams and yet has no 'real world skills' is simply a feeble defense mechanism by the less academically minded. Let them have their stereotype, I know from long experience that it is untrue.

at gcse level i do think you can do very wellthrough hard work regardless of natural ability

Reply 184

Intelligent, attractive and into extreme metal? You sound like my dream girl

He he thanks very much!

lolz i tried that one too... she didn't reply. lolz

Oh sorry, I just thought you were saying that you think most of the girls doing engineering look like boys

Also, I think in GCSEs anyone can score highly with enough effort, but some people also effortlessly get A*s

I've got mates in engineering departments and I've seen it with my own eyes, like one had a fairly impressive beard. but I'll get more of a taste of engineer desperation when I go myself, of course.

Can't stand dumb girls

Reply 189

I prefer to be at least a bit stimulated, so you can actually have a decent conversations. dumb doesnt do it for me at all.

A.....beard? woah, that's pretty scary.

Nooo nononono, intelligent girls ftw!

Reply 192

Never play dumb

as a guy I cant stand the other *******s who go around only dating the easy dumb girl.....

Nothing is more attractive to a decent guy then a intelligent girl you can actually talk to and exchange views.

Well, my last boyfriend dumped me for being too much of a nerd!

So what do you think? Should you always date someone of a similar intelligence to yourself? Did he just have a vendetta against clever people? Do guys secretly love women that can't tell apart chicken and tuna and should I "play dumb" to attract more guys?

Nah i dont think i could be with a really dumb person, i like my girlfriends to have a certain level of intelligence, makes the conversation more interesting, and being together more fun in my opinion

OK, I didn't get 100% in all my exams, but I did do pretty well. And I'm very practical.

There are smart people out there who have no common sense, but it's unfair to say all smart people are like that.

So basically, I agree with threepiecesuit.

As long as they have low self-esteem it doesn't matter how intelligent they are.
