Got to admire your persistence I guess. Can't you guys agree to disagree? (Or is it the other way round??! Oh, my head)
The underlying fact of principle is that those who are poor GENERALLY worked less at school, got bad grades and expect people to provide for them now. This is completely out of order! Why should we have to pay high taxes because they wanted to mess around at school??

Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo! Lol, please Love2Learn7... for the love of God, just let this thread slowly creep onto the second page.

That's not a fact, that's your incorrectly perceived opinion.
I am moaning about the fact we are paying more and more and more teaxes which are going to people have 3,4,5,6 and 7 children who dont seem to care about how many they have!
that's a minority. you're still moaning about a minority who abuse a system and believe it's just to shut it down, let innocent children die and let the honest majority suffer. it's something i completely disagree with

Its been proved that literacy rates have dropped (without referring back to the 17th century before you pull that one), its been quoted god knows how many times on and in the news.
no it hasnt. i hate to break this to you, but not everything in the news is true. i showed you the stats and you still don't believe the truth! you're one of those people who'll keep ramming his head into a brick wall in an attempt to break it.
show me some meaty stats to support this. well, you can't..because the stats, which i showed you, show that literacy rates have improved since 97.
love2learn7
If you are going to state that you think exams are not defnitely easier than i think its you who has serious problems. Why suddenly are Cambridge designing a new qualification (hint- its not just to do with A Levels containing coursework!).
once again, you've got the facts wrong. cambridge aren't designing a new qualification, they're stating which A-levels they will accept for certain courses.
you have a serious problem in raeding something somewhere, assuming it to be true and not shifting your position upon seeing the facts. i'll repeat what i said earlier: show me one shred of evidence to back up any of your claims.
love2learn7
Im not going to sit here trundling through National Statistics when all i am doing is pointing out the obvious!
this is the problem. you're pointing out waht is assumed to be true and are often things that aren't true. they're assumptions which help the right wing blame many groups in society so the true culprits get hidden.
look at the stats, open up your eyes, and see that a lot of what you believe is actually untrue.
love2learn7
You still didnt comment on labour net even being able to tell us how many asylum seekers they've allowed to walk into this country..........
wasn't our finest hour. but i think it wasn't about asylum seekers but illegal immgriants. someone who's clued up would know the difference.
you still haven't commented on your bitch about terrorists being from abroad when actually the 7/7 bombers were english.
oh wait, you haven't commented on so many other things where you were proved wrong..manchester's soaring gun crime, the vast majority of labour supporters live on benefits and have children that are on the streets causing crime or any of the other fertilizer you care to throw around.
love2learn7
It has been researched (i believe it was probably 18 months ago now) that children from single parented families are more likely to commit crime.
i'm not denying this. but do you even know what the word causality means? these people are in poverty, are in deprived areas, where education isn't as good. all of these factors, plus a zillion others, will contribute to crime..not just..single parent = criminal child. god, you are way too deterministic.
i'll say it again - CRIME HAS BEEN FALLING. AND IT'S FALL HAS COINCIDED WITH ECONOMIC RECOVERY, THE NEW DEAL, TAX CREDITS, LIFTING PEOPLE OUT OF POVERTY, BETTER EDUCATION, REDUCING URBAN DECAY etc etc.
and it's all happened under labour - crime soared under the tories, with their botched economy of boom and bust, sky high unemployment, urban decay and not really giving a **** about the poor. you're suggesting we do this all over again, which will increase crime.
love2learn7
I was hypothesising that a child told his father raped his mother would be mentally unstable.
maybe. still support the mother's right to choose and not the decision being made by someone like you from your moral highhorse.
love2learn7
i think you'll agree theres a huge difference between the grammar and vocabulary (however facist/bull*hit you think it is) between the two. I look at this and see the difference between the two sets of parties (again, stereotyping, but more likely true).
well, the sun and the star supported the tories back in the day, just like i've previously said.
love2learn7
Yes i think its bad to make generaslisations, but ive now come to the point where i lose hope. Out of the people i have been commenting about in this debate i believe only about 30% maximum would actually want to put the effort into furthering themselves.
was that the first random number you could think of, or did you raed it in the daily mail and ask all your friends and therefore it must be true?
love2learn7
I've found out from my primary school atleast 5 of the girls (and ive only probably spoken to 20 or so) are pregnant before age of 18.
not very scientific in your sampling, are you?
love2learn7
help fund intelligent poorer students into university. But i am still convinced that these are becoming more few and far between (which is actually sad). I think society is worsening and labour are not helping by throwing money at them!
well, you've kinda proved the point here. there are probably (although you haven't shown any evidence, as usual) fewer poorer intelligent people at uni.
reasons? poor education in the area they live so they never developed fully? well, that's one reason why labour's throwing money at them..so how is that not helping?
that;s why numbers of students at uni from poorer backgrounds has gone up..so how has that not helped?
i personally believe that the clique of oxbridge still prefer students from richer, private schooling backgrounds though, which could be another factor.

Someone being homeless/dying in indonesia is different to someone receiving benefits for their 4 children to 4 different fathers, in their paid for house, with their 32 inch widescreen tv in the livingroom..
you honestly think living off benefits is that easy? go try it for a month and you'll see. people struggle to get enough food for their family let alone have widescreen tvs in their living rooms.
love2learn7
That large area where labour dominate, didnt they have large numbers of the population digging holes in the ground for coal?
I would have tried to find "by region" people on benefits but theres not much data the Government wishes to give out on this (or atleast what i could find).
what exactly are you trying to prove? we all know there is a geographical divide and i said this last time
people from poorer, working class background will naturally vote for the party that actually cares about them and the party that their trade union is affiliated with
people from richer backgrounds are naturally gonna vote for the party their big business is affiliated with.
of course this is simplisitc, but it is a tendency im talking about.
love2learn7
Dont you find it unfair that whilst the majority of the country is colored in blue, we are ruled by a government elected by people who are all in a small congregated area? Yes i know about population density but the south east is more heavilly congregated!
you answered your own question there. population density. and yes, the south east will have that weighting too but it'll still perish in comparison to populations of the heavyweight cities.

The underlying fact of principle is that those who are poor GENERALLY worked less at school, got bad grades and expect people to provide for them now. This is completely out of order! Why should we have to pay high taxes because they wanted to mess around at school??
the underlying fact is that those who are poor GENERALLY had a ****tier school so would never want to work. would you work hard in a school where the teacher was different every week, and nobody really cared about your needs as a pupil.
it's so easy for you to rant at others coming from a good school and good background. environment shapes our behaviour. this is why improving schooling is the key..and yes..more taxes are needed for this..but the results are shining through right now.
in conclusion, i'm amazed you keep coming back for more
zertrudetrout, myself and others have destroyed your nutty conspiracy theories and "facts" about uk terrorists being foreign, guncrime soaring, most labour supporters being on benefits with kids that cause crime, literacy rates falling blah blah blah
you almost make me want to believe that skinner's theory of operant conditioning isn't true because after getting stung once, people don't keep coming back for more.
have you ever seen that bit in the simpsons, where bart keeps trying to reach for the cupcake and keeps getting an electric shock everytime but still keeps doing it? well, you see where i'm going with this.
it's really quite annoying to have a debate with someone who refuses to believe the statistical facts laid in front of him... you've got things the wrong way round, in that you have a belief first and then try to shape the truth around this.
sadly, the truth is black and white and won't fit your bizarre assertions.
once again, you've got the facts wrong. cambridge aren't designing a new qualification, they're stating which A-levels they will accept for certain courses
oh dear- someone hasnt been keeping up!!!!!!!!
"The dying art of the essay is to be resurrected in tough new examinations designed as an alternative to the devalued A-level.
Some of the most successful independent schools in the country, including Rugby, Shrewsbury, and Dulwich College, are working with Cambridge University International Examinations (CIE) to develop the qualifications.
Mr Hoyle: 'Bridge the gap' The exams, called the "Cambridge Pre-U", will reduce modular assessment, cut the unlimited resits of the current A-levels and attempt to restore academic rigour to a system which many argue has been irrevocably "dumbed down".
Draft syllabuses in mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology, history, geography, economics, business studies, French, German, Spanish, Chinese, art history, Latin, Greek, classical history and English are being drawn up by CIE, working with 50 independent schools, 50 schools abroad and the university sector."
You must be the biggest mug going! How could you not have heard of the Cambridge Pre U ?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!
Im not even going to bother reading your replies- i'll just state it here
Nearly all people who are in the bottom fifth of society are there because they do not have sufficient school qualifications, mainly caused by their inability to take school seriously. I am pretty confident that there are a lot of people in this country sick to death of having to prop them up at our expense!
That's not a fact, that's your incorrectly perceived opinion.
ok, so if they have the school qualifications then surely they should not have a problem getting a job- even if its at tescos!!?? Unless you're implying they're lazy??
hey embertoinferno are you on the TSR Imperial list, if not do you want to be?
No, I dont think I am..and yeah sure I dont mind!
Haha I think everyone at one point just ganged up and tried to pwn love2learn7 collectively and it just got out of hand (wouldn't be surprised if death threats were being sent via PM)
You must be the biggest mug going! How could you not have heard of the Cambridge Pre U ?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!
i stand corrected. i congratulate you on finally putting forth some evidence
but i'm a wise man and i'm able to accept when i got something mistaken...so i'm not the biggest mug going. the biggest mug going would refuse to believe the facts, refuse to accept when he's wrong, even when the evidence is laid out in front of him. oh wait, yes, that would be you. soaring gun crime, literacy rates, teenage pregnancy..you've been wrong on a zillion and one "facts" but refuse to acknowledge this.
love2learn7
Im not even going to bother reading your replies
that's exactly what's wrong with your debating skills. it's not even a debate if you don't listen to the other side. and this is why you won't/can't accept the truth..because like a pigeon about to be eaten by a cat, you close your eyes and hope not to see the truth.
love2learn7
Nearly all people who are in the bottom fifth of society are there because they do not have sufficient school qualifications, mainly caused by their inability to take school seriously.
you didnt even ****ing read what i wrote the last time you said this. what is wrong with you?
here's what i wrote and it still stands:
switchday
the underlying fact is that those who are poor GENERALLY had a ****tier school so would never want to work. would you work hard in a school where the teacher was different every week, and nobody really cared about your needs as a pupil.

ok, so if they have the school qualifications then surely they should not have a problem getting a job- even if its at tescos!!???
as someone with shining GCSEs..i had trouble getting a job this summer (even at tesco's) and only got a job in the end because of connections.
love2learn7
Switchday, your beloved Government throw up any old stats they can to make things look good. They dont count certain crimes as 'serious' anymore which makes crime look like its dropped
well, i wouldnt call them my beloved government because i'm at odds with them on a lot of policies but still prefer them to the crap we had under the tories.
and this is another place where you're blatently wrong. why do you try to debate something you're not even clued up on?
firstly, the british crime survey isn't even produced by the government..so it's not a government stat. secondly, it's methodology and definitions are unchanged, so that doesn't stand either. crime has fallen. i studied criminal psychology at a-level - i really doubt you're going to win this point.
love2learn7
they dont even assess how many school children obtained GCSE passes in the main core subjects, because if they did it would be bloody awful. If they did a chart simply for maths, english and science i think it'd show the true reflection of the rubbish education here.
erm, as far as i know, this has never existed for individual subjects. but english, maths and science pass rates have also gone up..hardly bloody awful.
love2learn7
A school local to me is now offering GCSE construction- what is the point of a GCSE in that, G stands for GENERAL - how is construction general??????
if you wanna bitch about GCSEs, i remind you that your beloved tories introduced it.
love2learn7
I dont need stats to assess whats happening to this country- i have eyes. i didnt say terrorists were foreign, i said that they wonder why we've got terrorists when letting anyone into this country!
but this is the problem. you see someone doing something somewhere and assume it to be a universal truth. you have eyes but never use them to see what is the best measure to assess what's happening..statistics, science, facts.
anecdotal evidence you see in day-to-day life perishes in comparison to this. god...you should know a thing or two about scientific methods.
and regarding terrorists, you bitched about immigration and linked it to terrorists..suggesting the terrorists we've had were immigrants. well, actually, they were british-born and raised.
love2learn7
Oh and why are some children getting a rubbish education still (as you pointed out)- i thought labour had improved the schools sooooooooooo much they they keep telling us?? 9 years so far and it seems theres still plenty of schools that are still cr@p
because there's still more to be done. things have got better but more needs to be done. we've dug ourselves out of the huge hole the tories got us into but now it's time to get us even further.
love2learn7
Its just a shame they had to try and take it so personal yelling abuse at me when i just wanted to keep it as calm as possible. Oh well i dont keep grudges- hope to see them around IC!
i take it personally because you've been so offensive to many people and parties..including my intelligence. i'm throwing all the facts in front of you, for you to come back and say "i don't need stats" and "i'm not gonna bother reading your posts". it's almost as if you don't like being proven wrong and you'd rather keep living in your world of idiotic assumptions and conspiracy theories.
and i do hope to see you around one day but to be honest, i like to have friends who are open minded and like to hear the other side now and again. you're the opposite in doing everything to avoid hearing the other side.
love2learn7
But i think the next time Imperial needs a team to negotiate something- myself, switchday and zertrudetrout will glady assist
i wouldn't like to be on your side. i haven't been impressed with your (lack of) debating skills.
