uni worries and not being able to sleep!

Im really excited about uni but lately i've been worrying myself about the people there. I dont mind new people, its just the old ones i know im worried about. A few people from my old college that i really dont get on with are going and i thought i'd be able to get away from them forever :frown:
Also one of my old friends is going and i could put up with her in college but shes been so annoying lately. She keeps isolating me from our group (not inviting me places etc) and making snide comments about me. I ignored it and was looking forward to a fresh start without her or anyone else. But thats not gonna happen now, it seems.
How can i stop worrying? Its really affecting me as i cant sleep. Im just worried that i'll end up living with these people i dont like or something!! I know uni is a big place but will i be able to avoid her and the others?

awww i can imagine how you feel! uni can be a great chance to have a fresh start and you probarbly think that might be hard with people who allready know you there. Do you know what courses these people are studying? if it is the same as you then there is a good chance that you will see them around, but remember that there will be loads of new peple there, and if the people from your college do start being horrible to you, they will just make themselves look pretty pathetic!
Try not to worry about it, just concentrate on having a good time and meeting new people. There is no point letting your fears ruin things for you.

To be fair you probably wont be living with any of them, or even see them more than like 3 times in 3 years, seeing as there are like 30,000 other students or something like that. I fell out with more or less all of my mates too, but concentrate on getting new ones through work and stuff, which is what i have done and then just be close to your good friends. You will meet loads of people at uni.

Lol, losing sleep?! I keep waking at about 2am EVERY DAMN NIGHT and can't get back to sleep. This never used to be a problem before I got accepted at Pompey - always used to wake at this time to use the bathroom anyway, but got right back off to sleep again. Now, when I try to settle and shut off, thoughts of Uni creep in and I can't bloody nod off!! I end up lying there for hours with my eyes shut, hoping this'll be enough to get me through the next day!

Uni is a big place.

Do you really care what others think of you?

In a nice way, grow up. Uni isn't infant school. If you see them, so what?

I'm a bit of an insomniac myself and I have found that lying there thinking "I must go to sleep" is the worst way to actually get to sleep. Get up and do something fairly non-exciting like read or tidy your room or something (probably not the best time to do the hoovering tho) to make yourself really sleepy. Or tell yourself "I mustn't go to sleep" if you can (I can't get that to work for me), or listen to a book on tape/cd which I find good as you can lie in the dark with your eyes closed (ie perfect sleep position) but listening to the story helps your brain to switch off much more.

Hope this helps
