I'm looking for a SIM only deal and I've found one that says monthly cost £8.99 and effective monthly cost £7.74, what does this mean, which price will I actually be paying per month?

Link? It typically means there's some sort of cashback element which you can be reimbursed with. The actual cost will be the £8.99 but the effective price will be referring to the average cost if the cashback was spread across the term of the plan.
