Uh Oh

Hmm...I don't know what to say to my parents. I didn't do as well as expected in recent exams and my parents are blaming it on the fact that I'm only bothered about my boyfriend and am letting my schoolwork slip. Now they are saying that they don't want me going to the same University as my bf because he is 'distracting me' which I find quite an offensive thing to say! :frown:

I don't know what to say to them to assure them I can pick my work back up without having to lose my boyfriend. Or maybe Im not concentrating enough and need to dump him?????

You need to decide first whether your boyfriend really is a distraction - and be brutally honest with yourself.

True, true...however the only thing preventing me working is the darn computer! If I don't use it to chat to ppl at night then I can do my work! I think I'm just a bit lazy really but how do I tell parents that lol!

You could ask your parents to be more strict about how long you spend on the 'puter. If you know it's affecting your work and if it could result in breaking you and your boyf up then surely it's a small sacrifice to make? Just set aside an hour or so to chat to your friends and then come offline after that?

How about you don't justify yourself to them, and explain to them that you're an adult, and what university you choose and for what reasons is your concern and not theirs?

Is going to a particular university because your boyfriend goes there a good enough reason? Maybe you should go to the university that provides a course you're most interested in, with a campus that you think would suit you best.

Thanks a lot guys I think I know what to do now. Spend an hour each night on computer then turn it off and thats that. And as for Uni...I'll go wherever I want because of the course!

At the end of the day you got to do what's best for you, obviously your parents want what's best for you as well, but really you got to go where you you feel you will be comfortable.
