Asperger's - do I have it?

A friend of mine with Asperger's told me to take this test - he was getting other people to take it as well, in case you're wondering. So, I took it. According to it, 80% of people with Asperger's have a score of 32 or above. I scored 35. The friend scored 32. All other friends who took the test scored considerably less. Do you think it means anything? It's not just any online quiz - while I understand its result should be taken with a pinch of salt, it does appear to have some integrity and has got me thinking about my behaviour, particularly in childhood, which could be perceived as Aspergic. Do you think I should get myself checked out?

I think it'd be fairly apparent by now if you had Asperger's.

whats aspergers?

As far as I know its described as a mild form of autism where the sufferer can generally lead a normal life but have certain traits not perceived as normal such as fascination in a certain subject or a compulsive collector. Or have trouble in some social situations where they find it difficult to understand the other people as well at most. I have a friend with Aspergers where he is mostly 'normal' but there are some aspects where he's a bit..'quirky'...that's the best way I can describe it anyway.

I may be wrong!

ye ok well that sounds pretty complex, and not the best option to test yourself using the net. i think i have aspergers now lol.

If you're worried go speak to your GP, but I wouldn't really be that bothered about what an online test tells you.

And we can't diagnose you either. It can take flipping ages for assessments to decide, and self-diagnosis of that sort of thing bothers me no end. It took doctors over a year to decide that my cousin didn't have it, so there's not really much point asking here...

To the original poster...i think, if you have Aspergers you would not be aware there was anything wrong with you, if you did that would kinda defeat the diagnosis of aspergers..lol

Hmm not technically true. A kid who my mum works with who has Asperger's knows he has it. He even says sometimes, "Oh why do I have to have Asperger's?"

Eugene from one of the Big Brothers supposedly has Aspergers. If you remember, he wasn't very good in social situations and was fascinated by radios and numbers and stuff.

Like some of the others have said you might have known by now if you did have it. If it's bothering you then go to the doctors.

I'm not a hypochondriac - I clearly stated in my post that I recognised that it was an Internet test, but the result still concerned me because of the relative scores of my Aspergic friend and my non-Aspergic friends. It just fits in with certain character traits. I'd rather not elaborate too much because it's a bit embarassing. But I do seem to tick most of the boxes (after taking that test on a whim I read up about it). My friends simply think of me just being a bit weird... so I'm sure I don't have anything to worry about, but I can't help but be a bit concerned by it. I would want to be 'normal' on any test I took. I'm sure even if I did have Asperger's it would be mild - I can pretty much function, even if I'm not brilliant with most people. Also, the comment that if I had Asperger's I would know about it is not helpful - there are tons of conditions that people don't realise they have. I know someone who didn't get diagnosed with dyslexia until recently, which meant most of their schooling was messed up. If you remember that high-profile case of Craig Nicholls, the Vines' lead singer who got off an assault charge because psychiatrists diagnosed him with Asperger's - he was a rock'n'roll star without realising he had Asperger's!

Well then, like others have said, go to a bloomin' doctor.

hmmm, yeah maybe I just see it differently as I'm just used to my friend who has it, obviously it's different for everyone. But you think if they were actively aware they could change some aspects of it, of course not all.
That's just the way I view all mental illness.

Did you have any idea something was 'different' before your friend brought it up? It's probably all just in your head.

I don't know about the others but when I say you might have known by now was maybe something would have been noticed before now and you;d have seen a doctor. It's unlikely to automatically know you suffer from something without being told.

Reply 16

Yeah and it's likely that by your age someone would have noticed something be it family or teachers and done something about it, assuming you're not like...8

Reply 17

I dont think you have it. Often people with asperger's are so at sea in social situations its obvious theres something different going on

Reply 18

I scored 17, am I relativly normal?

Reply 19

Well i scored 33!
If you are at all worried, or just want to make sure- go to your doctors. I know i have symptons of aspergers/autism but i dont think i am either therefore for now, im not worried. But as i said- if its something you'll think about go get it checked.
