Imperial Admissions Staff are um...Rude

I'm really sorry to hear about your dad...but its great you managed to get home status in the end.

The same applies to Saudi, all jobs here are temporary, and they're trying to replace foreign workers with local ones which makes employment even more unstable. We've tried explaining everything to Imperial but they still won't buy it. My last chance now is to provide evidence that we're now living in the UK. Fingers crossed. Do you have a house or family in the UK btw because that could be an important factor?

Thanks again for your help!

Hey,

We had a house, but sold it to pay for my dads treatments, so that made it even harder. though I do have family in the UK, I didnt really refer to them in my appeals.

The only person I've spoken to in admissions is my admissions tutor, who was far from unhelpful because he said he was letting me come

I have had similar, but with the student loans company - my father works in Kuwait and as such is not obliged to disclose his income, which we were going to try and use to my advantage and get me a maintainance grant. However, they started kicking up a fuss, asking for our passports, history of where we have lived, why we moved abroad for x number of years, why we returned etc. In the end we decided it wasn't worth the hassle... however it doesn't look like I am going to get my scholarship.

Slightly different with you guys though as the sum of money involved is significantly greater. I hope you all get it sorted soon.

oo jammy, what scholarship is this for??

A scholarship I applied for at IC as I was under the impression that I would be awarded a maintainence grant from the LEA as my mother's income (which is what they should have taken into account) is very low. My father is a non-resident, non-domiciled British citizen and as such isn't a tax payer. I do feel slightly guilty that I was awarded the scholarship (only 1 per faculty) which is for student's from a low income family, but at the end of the day I am only looking out for number one.
lol the Students Opportunity Scholarship?? Did you get the grant etc? If so then theres nothing to worry about it my opinion. Your in a win win situation, if you didnt get the grant (the scholarship office will confirm with slc your residual income) then they will offer it to someone else, so you're cool.

Yeah, I got awarded it. Have had a couple of emails from them saying that they haven't recieved confirmation from SLC or LEA that my families residual income is less than £25000 (which it isn't, but for the purposes of the LEA is) so I replied to them today explaining the situation. Either way, if I don't get it at least I know that they intended to give it to me, which must say something about my academia...
I got it  and its been confirmed etc. Hope you get it! Have you had any notification about your loan or grant yet?

Congrats - it's actually a pretty tough award to get so well done .

I have only been awarded the basic loan for London as on further talking to the LEA we came to the agreement that the easiest way was just to go for a non-income assesment.
I see, you missed out on the grant though, free money, you should have fought on! And now ICL maybe inclined to decline your award now? But still hope everthing works out, dont want to be the only one cringing among the ICL alumni.

What are you going to read at ICL anyway?

I am expecting not to get it, but I wrote a half soppy letter just to try. To be honest we didn't want to go too far with the LEA - my father didn't want to disclose his salary to them as information could quite easily be passed on to other departments in HM Customs&Revenue - not that he has done anything below board, but they then may start asking questions etc - we had a huge run-in with them a couple of years back when they decided to send us a cheque out of the blue for many thousands in child-tax credits (which technically my mother was entitled to) which they subsequently asked to be repaid as we weren't entitled blah blah. The LEA also started asking for his certificate of naturalisation as a British citizen, our passports, etc - too much hassle to be honest.

I am reading Aero Eng - you?
Ah I see, good idea stay well clear or you wont even get a loan lol. Im off to read Physics with Theoretical Physics.

Crazy nutter! I have a friend starting next year on the same course at St. Andys - looks so interesting but I fear what you will be able to do with it, unless you move into research.

I would like to look at the private equity side of things, perhaps leveraged finance - my sister is in that business

There was no way I'd be able to afford international fees but now that i'm a home student I'll definitely be seeing you guys there!
