2. Do the stuff in brackets first (BIDMAS). So 48/2(12), then that gives 48/24=2
A quarter to nine

Gotta expand brackets before division. So 48/24 instead of 24*12

2 is not in the brackets. Multiplication is equal to division, the convention is to work from left to right in this case. So that would be 24*12=288.

nonono Multiply out the brackets first
48/2(9+3) do the brackets first using bidmad that leaves 48/2*12 and then that leaves just division and multiplication which are done in the order which they appear giving 24*12=288 and Google agrees with me

Was tempted to say 2 first. Hmm. :/

288 because...

Technically it's just (48/2)*(12)?

BIDMAS :yep:

The expression you have used there is not the same as the OP. The answer is 2 end of.
Some people interpret this question as (48/2)(12) in which case 288 is the right answer.

Everyone else is interpreting it as 48 / 2(12) in which case 2 is the right answer.

For the all the top grades I've gotten in maths over the past couple of years involving calculations much more difficult than that, I have no idea which of those is right.
