Am I losing weight too fast?

I've been on a diet for the past ten weeks, and I've lost 20 kilos, which is almost 3 stones.

Although my family, doctor and friends wanted me to lose weight and were pressuring me, now that I have started and kept going with this quite strict diet, they are afraid that I am doing it too fast. Its become a bit of a catch 22. I intend to lose two more stones, and then stabilise my weight, but I wanted to know where -

Do you lot think losing 3.2 stones in 10 weeks is dangerously too fast?

Yeah that does sound a little too dangerous, just take it step by step, remember you still got to have your 3 healthy meals a day, long as you do that and exercise regularly then the weight will come off.

Have you ever considered weightwatchers they are really good.

The more overweight you are, the safer it is to lose more weight in the same time frame. If you're a good 60 pounds overweight, then at the start losing 4 pounds a week isn't really that bad, considering 2 pounds a week is plenty safe and healthy for those of a lower bodyfat percentage.

Depends are you eating healthy foods and about how many calories do you consume a day? are you excessively exercising? perhaps the weight is coming off because you are doing the above.

Yes, that's too fast. As much as people tell you you need to lose weight, the speed at which you do it is not important. Take your time, eat healthily, and exercise a bit each day. If you lose weight too quickly you might risk your health, and you might put it all back on as soon as you change your eating habits again.

depends how overweight you were!

Wow! More than 3 stone in 10 weeks is great, imho!

As another poster asked, what have you been eating/how have you been exercising? As long as you're not overdoing it, that's a remarkable achievement, and keep up the good work. And, as Squelchy said, the heavier a person is, the safer a quicker weight loss is.

Exactly how strict is this very strict diet of yours? What would you eat in an average day?

Well I originally weighed 19 stones, and now weigh just over 15 stones.

I eat three, sometimes four meals a day, but very small portions.

I wouldn't say that I exercise a lot, but I am far more active than I was before I began the diet.

At your size, losing that amount of weight in the time you've done it is perfectly reasonable.

If you make changes to your diet and exercise when you were fairly overweight then it kick starts you metabolism so I think that that what you've lost so far is fine. Chances are as you get closer to a healthier weight your weight loss will slow down (or maybe even stick for a while).

Sounds reasonable to me but I'd expect it to start slowing down soon. If it doesn't then you should probably reconsider your diet and decide whether it's enough.

Don't know whether this is correct, but I once heard that you shouldn't lose more than 10% of your body weight within a couple of months, and so if you carry on losing weight at this rate then you will eventually be doing more harm than damage. Although I should imagine that the rate you lose the weight should slow down the lighter you become.
