Classics more akin to history or english literature?

Hello, I am currently choosing my university electives and am tempted to take classical studies as the subject has always rather interested me. The question however is whether it is more akin to literature (e.g. study this passage, what do you think the significance of the black raven is here, etc) or more to history wherein you're studying sources and trying to reach a conclusion about the key factors and happenings behind a certain event or period within time?
Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.
