I'm starting my 1st year in a few weeks time and just wondering how much I can expect my Student Loan to decrease in my 2nd year and 3rd year?

If it goes down by a lot then I'll save money during my 1st year.

No you don't. Final year you get less because student finance don't pay for summer.

Assuming your parents household income hasn't changed you should get the same in 2nd year. 3rd year however it reduces- how much depends on how much you get in the first place, mine was cut by £300 as they won't cover the summer after uni has finished as your entitled to claim benefits or start a job straight away.

Oh right that's fine then.

For some reason I thought it reduced by thousands each year.

Not bothered about £300 or so less in the third year so it's all good.

And you get your Erasmus grant (ie doesn't have to be paid back) on top - the amount changes every year slightly, but it's usually about EUR300 :-)

It's only the loan that gets reduced in your final year.

I've got slightly less each year but apparently in first year the term dates were such that I got a long course bonus.

First was 6700
Second was 6600
Third will be 6300

Also got university bursary.

First was 500
Second was 800
Third will be 1000
