Really interested in art foundation course, particularly fine art, before uni/ after 6th form. Struggling to find any info' relating to league tables, best colleges to go to etc. Any opinions? Best courses? Best places? Links to sites? Pretty confused.
Plenty on Uni courses but foundation seems pretty neglected... Any info' would be gratefully recieved.
well im orginally from leicester, and i wouldnt reccomend DMU, as 4 of my friends did the foundation there, and even though they were A students in A level, they got refused offers for full time degrees thereafter. Im currently at Chelsea college of art. If i can reccomend any, id say.....Chelsea College of Art (london), Central St Martins (london), or Loughborough University.
The problem with doing a Foundation Course at a uni away from home is that you don't get a student loan. You might be better off just doing a course at a local college.

well I was offered a place at a local college but the place is sooooooo crap that one year some of the teachers got fed up and left to go teach at the college I was at (there's 2 colleges in my hometown), anyway that's why I decided on DMU even if I don't get any student loans and crap and my parents' financial situation is pretty bad I can still get money from the access to learning fund and £30 a week from the adult learners grant as I'm 20, well I will do when I get round to filling out the forms that is lol Also I want to do my degree at DMU so it makes sense to me to do my foundation at DMU
my local college (10 minute bus) is Ravensbourne. Pretty lucky considering I either want to do fashion (which they've had mentions in the guardian and the times for among CSM and LCF) or product design
My uni card however makes me look like an alcoholic so I may have to leave due to pure embarrasment (the photos being on the system...)
University of the arts in london (although avoid CSM, it has such low student statisfaction rates), Bournemouth Institute of Arts, Leeds College of Art and Design. Loughborough's meant to be ok too.
The Arts Institute at Bournemouth for foundation, has high very reputation. Ad for degree in Fine Art- Chelsea College of Art, Goldsmiths, CSM, Wimbledon, Slade, Arts Institute Bournemouth, Kingston, Falmouth, Plymouth and UEL.
Everyone is saying that you cant get a loan, but HSBC seem to have offered me one. They also provided me with an interest free overdraft (for if i needed it) so that kind of works like a £1000 short term loan.
I am at Cambridge Regional College and although the rest of the college can be seen as a bit ****e, the art and design department is brilliant and has so many facilities in so many areas of study. The best one I looked around in the local area by far. Helena xox

i do a foundation at uni. i go to the university colllege for the creative arts at epsom not farnham and its pretty good and only 20 mins on the train so its not too bad.
the fact that when you pass your foundation you get garanteed entry to any of their 5 art unis around the country its pretty good, saved you applying for the whole ucas thing unless you want to go somewhere else.
i dont have a student loan but ive got an student account with natwest and have had it for years and theyve also given me the 1,000 intreset free overdraft and a student credit card so thats helps but yeah you can get a loan for thet course if your over 18. im 19 and have to pay for the course (its only 500 quid so its not too bad) and stuff myself tho cos my mum doesnt earn that much money the uni is giving me some money to help towards materials and travel costs which is good.
someone at camberwell told me the other day that the degrees there are good, but the foundation in comparason isn't
considering the fact that we all come out with the edexcel foundation and your acceptance to university should be based on your work, as opposed to the name of your college it doesn't really matter if you go locally i guess
