I'm in self-catered accomodation so I can see myself losing weight if anything, but if you're in catered I can see why you might be fretting. Just try and stick to how you usually would eat, and you'll be okay. Even if you did put on a few pounds, it doesn't really matter in the long run. I don't know which Uni you are off to, but I'm pretty sure there will be gyms nearby if necessary, and walking around campus alone will provide plenty of exercise! Sorry if I haven't helped much.

I actually feel it could be the opposite. Catered accommodation makes it more difficult but they will always have a healthy choice I would assume. Don't most unis have a gym and sports societies and teams etc? and its generally cheaper? I would say there is no reason to gain weight atall.

You'll be surprised how often you wander into the kitchen to snack :p:

my sister reckons every term when she goes back to uni the big drinkers put on a lot of weight.
I am seriously hoping / counting on losing some weight at uni!

I'd like to lose an inch on my waist and hips, and tone up.

I'm going to take up martial arts (i already eat healthily). so hopefully all will go to plan!

and thank god pints in London cost £3, might help me binge drink a bit less...

Catered is not gonna do me any favours, especially with my appetite.

drink vodka not beer
Going to uni...if it's self-catered: It's a death trap (or fat trap). I don't know anybody who lost weight self-catered.
dont drink guinness, actually the clearer the drink thee less calories it contains and the least worse hangover it gives you, so yea drink vodka not beer(great post)

lol not true. peach archers is clear but sugar filled fatness in a cup
stick to spirits with diet sodas if you wanna lose weight
best are vodka, bacardi, rum, bourbon (southern comforts has more calories than the others though)
those spirits are about 65cals a shot if that means anything to anyone! whereas beer is like 250
I know a couple of med students who lost weight on self catered cause they were too busy to eat.

Lots of bars don't actually have diet mixers, which is annoying.

It's called the Freshman 15 here, everyone gets it, so it will be strange seeing my friends come December. Will they be fat? dun dun dunnnnn ... I'm hoping I dodge at least part of the bullet - I know I'm going to be depressed by the crappy weather and will have to exercise like mad to stay happy. Side benefit is/will hopefully be I don't gain the weight.

I think people who are self catered are more likely to put on weight. If you have to make your own food and either cant be bothered or don't have much time you're going to end up eating lots of rubbish.
