And where did you hear about this 'reputation' from?

London is the fire, and university is what you make of it. That's all you really need to be contented with.

Tens of thousands have walked through the gates of LSE feeling accomplished and delighted to have that experience...

is it true that lse is the most boring uni in england ?? i know that univ is what you make of it, but i also know that theres no smoke without a fire. why woudl lse have such a reputation?[/QUOTE]

Probably because the students are on average intelligent and hardworking, which in the mind of the average chav, makes them boring as people. Let's be honest, some of them probably are, but I'm sure you'll find that LSE students have just as much fun as other uni students.

lets not kid ourselves....
hes most probably right.. overall it is one of the most boring.. but i doubt it has anything on places like oxbridge... i hear they're real party animals over there.... (p.s. not really)
Actually LSE was ranked #1 in some ranking of best social life for students!

http://www.lboro.ac.uk/prospectus/achievements/tables.html

"Oxford and Cambridge may regularly top the official university academic league tables but the London School of Economics (LSE) offers its students the best and most varied local entertainment, according to a table published today. The table, compiled by internet search engine Yell.com, ranks Britain's top 20 universities according to the number of 'social' services they offer students, instead of looking at more conventional measures such as quality of teaching, student-staff ratios and graduate prospects. The search engine based its findings on its database of businesses, shops and services to find the number of pubs, off-licences, nightclubs, discos, fancy dress hire shops, pizza delivery and takeaway outlets within each university town or city. From its cramped premises in Central London, LSE boasts a nightclub for every 93 students. And Glasgow is the place to be if you need an outfit for a fresher's week fancy dress party, the table shows. Nottingham is best for a beer, getting top marks for the most pubs. And students at King's College, London, have the best all-round night out with plenty of clubs as well as takeaways to round off the evening."

Just goes to show that if you want to have fun whilst at LSE, there are plenty of places to do it! However, the onus is on the individual to go out and meet people so as long as you are prepared to do that, you shouldn't lack for a social life

its one of the worst for sports though... gotta take a train to find a playing field!
everyone I know loves the place and has a great social life.. the 'boring' stereotype is simply not true. at lse people tend to work hard and play hard.

Yeah, that is the inevitable consequence of the university's central location. That said, there does seem to be quite an active inter-hall football league according to the Student Union website

Haha, no, just being a dick for no reason. Just that 'work hard, play hard' is a bit of a cliche, in my experience a lot of people who work hard feel they have to say they play hard too to avoid being labelled a geek or whatever.
Haha I am the master of Google :p:
It is interesting to look at different surveys not just academic ones. I looked at the National Student Survey and was kinda bummed when Kings beat LSE in like almost every category. But never mind I still am glad I picked LSE over Kings. I just cant wait to start now. 2 weeks to go ah i would be happy starting on Monday

I've heard a few people call LSE boring, but I think its because of LSE students reputation as hard-working and focused.

Personally, as someone who possesses a relatively introvert personality, LSE's reputation as not one of the 'party animal' unis is not a turn-off, but re-assuring.
