Abacus is the intercollegiate Chinese social soc. It has socs in most of the major London colleges, like Kings LSE etc.
At the same time there is also two Chinese socs in Imperial (on top of Abacus that is). One geared towards mainlanders, and the other geared towards Hong Kong Chinese, erm...people.
I fail to see the niche that Abacus fills tho.

This might seem like a stupid question but do you HAVE to be Chinese (nationality/ethnicity) to join? And is there any competition between the Mainlanders and Hong Kong-ites/ers ? :biggrin:

Unlikely, since that would be discrimination.

However, you might not feel welcome. On the other hand you might feel very welcomed -- I have no idea.

i was gonna ask if anyone knew if every1 basically speaks chinese, cos i'm chinese but i don't spk chinese, but i wanted to get know more chinese people, so would i find it really hard?

(I'm British)

Lots of Chinese students do speak Chinese when they're with Chinese people, but presumably they won't if that means they can't be understood!

oh, and the niche that ABACUS fills i think, is that it's supposed to be for British Born Chinese, (who speak chinese! <-- well that's what i'm tyring to find out, but i have a sneaky suspicion i'm right!)
