Going into year 11, I will be completing the normal GCSEs as well as Media, Business and IT. With this year comes the question of what college to go to and what courses to choose.
I do want to go into journalism at university and in the future as a career, so what would be my best A-level choices? There are several colleges near me, so I do have options. One predicament is whether to choose A-level media or Btec Journalism. Thanks.

I'd recommend A-Level Media over BTEC Journalism.

I did first year Journalism at Uni and my A-Levels were Media, English Language and Psychology (plus Politics AS and Sociology AS)

When I went for interviews and open days they didnt really have preferences IIRC. I think they like you to have English/Media as it does provide a grounding in things they'll cover (you get a head start in knowing how to use cameras and edit etc, as well as having a better grasp of how to use language effectively ) though one university I went to said they'd also like candidates who had a science background.

Thanks for this. So would you agree A-levels in Media, English Language and another that is a type of journalism? For example, the two above and business for business journalism. Science for science journalism etc

you're welcome

um well I wouldnt recommend specialising yourself at A-Level. We were encouraged to keep our options as broad as possible for as long as possible and to try many different things (I left in first year but my options for second year were varied)
I'd definitely agree with English and Media (loved them both) but for a third option I'd go with something that is possibly related but at the same time is something that interests you.

Well, thanks again . I guess it's just a case of me looking at my options and weighing up what I enjoy the most and helps me in the future for this. Thanks!

again you're welcome :')

indeed. I'd recommend checking out university websites and the NCTJ website (it's your accreditation, it's VERY hard to get employed as a journalist without this) for an idea of what you need and what'll help you ^.^ though you'll find that probably most places are pretty relaxed with what you need :3
