I love you... Oh wait that was a joke...

I've just rang a best friend lad as a dare from my other friends... (i'm a girl - 17 and my best lad friend is 19).

I told him 'I love you!' and he took it seriously going on about how long he'd liked me, he kept going on about the flirting hints he had been giving me... and told me he wants to see me tommorrow cos he's going to uni soon but thinks the relationship can be long since weve been friends for years......

I'm not attracted to him at all and I never knew he was. I was hoping he was gonna joke... but it didn't work that way.

and my friends knew he'd fancied me...

Dude, that's just harsh! Why would you do that, even for a joke?! Hmms, well, anyway, you could try to say you meant 'I love you' as a friend, but depending on what you said in the rest of the conversation, that may not work. Or just say you're going to uni and don't want anything to happen because of practicalities etc, or because you're friends it wouldn't work out.

but me and this guy always joked about and stuff.. I didn't think he react like this. i know I've been a bitch and i won't do it again... I feel awful for doing it especially when my friends knew... I can't believe that though! :frown:

Hmm I think tomorrow just talk to him and explain it was meant as a joke but you're very touched by his feelings and you would like to remain close friends...tell him you're friends put you up to it and you would never have done it had you known (which im assuming would be true) and i don't know, see how he takes it, it's not fair to lead him on which you probably know and it's only fair to tell him the truth otherwise you're sending him barking totally up the wrong tree. yea...it was very unfair of your friends to get you to do that considering what they knew...but you should still have thought yourself that doing such a thing could have drastic consequences - you may have joked about stuff before but the emotional weight placed on telling someone you love them is enormous, and, in my opinion, should never be joked about - you would honestly be fortunate if he wants to talk to you again - I know I wouldn't.

and i've told my friends how i felt and they said sorry and stuff... got my some chocolate and a teddy bear lol!! but I'm still hurt about this lad... :frown:

It was funny! but towards the end of the convo... it got worse...

It was like ' I love you!'

he was like ' oh.. honestly'

'Yeah, I love you! I love you!!'

' Oh my god, seriously'

If you think it was funny still, I don't think you've quite realised what you could've done.

You need to let him know soon. He might not like you very much after, but he needs to go to uni not clinging onto hope.
