I read in the accommodation agreement that we are not allowed to smoke in halls. How strict are they about this? And also, can I smoke anywhere in public? Like in a park or the street. for example.

This is my first time in the UK, so just wanted to make sure of things before I ease into things

I'm not sure about your accommodation but you can smoke in both parks and normal streets as well as pretty much any other public place that's outside. You can't smoke inside in public places, for example in a pub or restaurant.

You can smoke outside your accommodation building but not in your room/flat. It'll set off the fire alarms and you'll be fined. In the UK it's also against the law to smoke inside a public place (restaurants, trains, communal areas, etc.). Most establishments extend this policy to electronic cigarettes as well.
