Worried about "bar crawl"

Hey im 20 and gonna be going to uni next year and im a bit worried about my situation. Im not gonna say im a big drinker but drink every now and again not to the point i lose control. i also dont know alot about differant drinks and dont want to look weird asking people what i should order :s-smilie:

Anyways after following this group on facebook it turns out literally everyone from my course and uni are going to this "bar crawl" and im a bit sceptical in going to it because i dont want to look like a fool!

anyone got any advice as i dont want to miss out on what looks like a massive event to socialise!!
Most young people give off the impression they are hardcore drinkers but they aren't. They do it just to fit in and look cool, they probably feel just the same as you. Definitely go to the bar crawl just remember that you don't HAVE to drink at each one, you could just buy a drink at one then alternate to a water at the next bar.

As for what drinks I always recommend people to start with alcopops such as WKD, VK, Smirnoff Ice.... These are really easy to drink, not strong, dont taste like alcohol and have low ABV so unless you go mental your not gonna make a fool of yourself. Try Kopparberg or Rekorderlig ciders also but these are quite sweet. Bottled beers like Budweiser aren't too offensive either. If your inexperienced avoid shots/cocktails as these are very strong and take a while to effect me personally so before you know it your all the over the place lol. If your really struggling to order just say "I'll have what your having" or something? If this isn't an option just look behind the counter and point lol.
Don't listen to that guy above. Just stick to beer and you will be fine.

All that fruity cider and alco-pops are pussy drinks. Beer is fairly weak and you won't get too drunk if you drink it slowly. You can always order a half if you don't want to drink too much or just have shandys.

There is really nothing to worry about. You're going to a few pubs for a few drinks. That is like the least stressful thing it is possible to do.

Anyway, read this.

You now know as much if not more than anyone else.

Rofl. I was gonna say people might call you a pussy for drinking them. I suggested them as a "beginner" drinks. Beer tastes like ****, it's an acquired taste, hardly anyone has their first sip of beer and thinks "wow this **** is amazing" Only kids trying to sound alpha.
Every time someone order an alcopop a child dies.

Considering that beer in the most drank beverage in the UK suggests that it is not an "acquired" taste at all. You may not like it, but there are millions of others who do.

Just because something is popular doesn't mean it's good. Beer has the slick marketing campaigns and is shoved down our throats. I can't talk for everybody but I seriously believe the most guys who claim to love beer are exaggerating to look manly. I'm talking mainly of piss water like Carling and similar drinks. Craft beers are decent tbh.

It sort of does, if people didn't like it then they wouldn't drink it considering how saturated the alcohol market is there is plenty of other choices. The UK sells a massive 4,319,000,000 L of beer every year, that is the 8th in the world.

Carling and bud are equally ****. But Carlsberg and Stella are pretty good. I really do love beer, it is the best drink ever.

ohh ok  youve settled my nerves a bit thanks lol
If you don't want to drink you could just drink coke or lemonade, no one knows that it doesn't have Vodka or JD etc in it so don't worry about it.

But if you do want to drink try fruit ciders because you can hardly taste the alcohol in them the strawberry Bulmers is quite nice.

I would recommend Carlsberg as a decent standard cheap beer and almost everywhere serves it. It is light and refreshing.

You just go to the barman and say "can I get a pint of [insert name here] please" or "can I get a half of [insert name here] please" then when he gives you the pint a simple thank you or cheers is recommended. Which ever you feel comfortable with saying.
Drink whatever you enjoy, but remember...

"Beer before liquor, never sicker; liquor before beer, never fear."
"Beer before whiskey, always risky."

...also don't mix grape and grain.

Yes, you just look at the various pumps, pick one, then walk up to the bar and say "a pint of xx please", or if you just want a half, say "a half of xx please". If you can see a bottle in the fridge that you would prefer, say "a bottle of xx please" and point to it.

Have you really never seen someone order a beer in a pub before?

In terms of what to choose, its impossible to tell you what you will like, you just have to try stuff for yourself.

Do you have to state the brand of the beer or can you just say pint of beer?

I have no idea how to order in a pub or club.

There will be like 5-20 different beers available, so if you say "pint of beer", the next question will be "which one?".

So just read out one of the pump clips. "Pint of London Pride please" etc.
There are actually some really nice low alcohol lagers (2% ish) available in most pubs these days. Or grab a bottle of Becks Blue which is virtually alcohol free and is surprisingly good.
