Erm, the extent of ritual and the whole hellfire and brimstone thing. Not that I know too much about it, but that's the impression.

And I know Clare choir has a good rep - I've heard them countless times and sung with them last term.

I do hope you're joking!
Cos if you aren't, no offence, but yeah I'd concur that you don't know much about it. The more fundamentalist Protestants are the ones who do that these days if you're interested.

Erm, if you read a little carefully, then you will see the words "not that I know much about it," indicating that is only the impression I have. I know not all Catholics are like that, and having been to a few of the Christian Union talks here, they scared me just as much. I am very much in between.

I never said I thought it was an ideal situation.

I'm not mad at you, I'm just mad

Helen was joking and so was I.

Actually, no, I wasn't. However lighthearted you may be being about it, it still makes you look like an arrogant prick when you say it on here. I know (I think) that it's generally not true, but stuff like that doesn't generally make me like you any better. My next door neighbour went to one of your amazing Catholic schools and he barely ever mentions it

Uh, I love it when you get angry

I don't think you need to become catholic anyway, it isn't as though you live a sinful life

Not as much as some people, but I'm hardly little miss squeaky clean either. But Catholicism isn't the way forward, I don't think

I wish you'd lighten up a little Helen. Your forum offerings do not enjoy the same entertainment value they once did.

Hmm, I'm inclined to agree. The problem with catholicism is that there are too many outdated morals. What I would say though is that most of the morals are good ones, but yes, they can be found in other branches of the christian faith. Granted there are the rare cases of 'naughty' priests but on the whole though catholics do most in their power for a better world nowadays and it is that what is important not their chosen part of the christian faith.

Then why must you waffle on about catholocism so much as opposed to other branches of Christian faith? huh???

I don't really. My sig is more of a dig at the catholic church over anything. They are loaded.

Us catholic needs to stick together anyway, there are not exactly lots of us left

Your friend seems very nice.

I'm a Catholic, technically.

Possibly a Father interfered with him and now your friend is trying to put it behind him?

I know many people who attended these schools and they are very similar Joey when they boast of their education.

Drop that now. It isn't nice. The fathers from the respective schools who did that have been dealt with. They were wrong, but it still doesn't mean they can't be forgiven.

That's then way of the Catholic church: Rape a child? Kill a few hundred people to keep your gambling empire going? Come and repent! God will forgive you!

Yes, forgive me. It was in bad taste.

I wouldn't forgive them if they did it to me.....but I guess if I were a catholic then I might.....seems to me this mentality perpetuates and tacitly almost condones such behaviour........

Your looking at the smaller picture. Even the pope will admit that catholics have done bad in the past, but on the bigger picture they do more good than bad. Sometimes we forget we are only human, we make mistakes.

Of course such behaviour is not condoned. You cannot outcast someone because they made a mistake though, however bad.

Well it is easier to spread news of the good you have done......no one would be as forth coming with bad news.

Of course you can. They should be stoned to death. In public.

Of course but you wouldn't suggest that more bad has been done by catholics than good surely?

Given that we are not in any position to truly assess the bad doings of the Catholics, it would be unsensible to suggest such a thing. I would hope not though.

EDIT: Although, it is mighty shocking when an international organistation feels that they need to keep an 'abuse register' of the Catholic church.

Please tell me the biggest achievement of the Catholic church.
