Really dry chapped lips - what works?

I've never really had this problem before - especially not for over a week. My lips got really dry a week ago and are getting worse and worse and nothing seems to work. Even if i coat em in loads and loads of lip cream and moisturiser at night, I wake up with it all flakey and horrible. And if I pick them it gets even worse. They feel really sore now and I've tried a lot to sort it out.

Sorry if there's already a thread but I couldn't find it (dry, lips, and other similar words are too short for the search engine!)

Would appreciate any help!

Chapstick. Vaseline

Carmex.

Carmex works wonders, although it does smell a little yucky to me! You can buy it in chemists, although I got mine from Topshop! Dont pick your lips otherwise it will really hurt, trust me, and will kill if you have anything spicy/fruit to eat!

Im not too keen on vaseline, it never really works for me. Boots also do some nice chapsticks in different flavours, 79p each I think. The mint one is lovely! Burts Beeswax is supposed to be good too.

Tons of vasiline and drink LOTS of water.

Dried lips is a sign on dehydration

Have you tried blistex it works really well. I always get really bad dry lips because i have to wear a mouthguard sometimes.

Reply 6

Blistex is amazing stuff. My lips used to get dry from playing too much music, and Blistex was the only thing that would rehydrate them.

Reply 7

Vaseline definitely but my brother uses blistex too and swears by it.

Like foxiroxi said, drinking water is probably the best thing to do. Dry lips are a sign of dehydration. Lush Lipbalms are pretty good - especially the T Tree one.

I like Carmex the best. I still have a pot of aloe vera vaseline that I use all the time too. I've never found a lip balm that has worked as good as vaseline or carmex.

Persistence. And also, don't pick! picking is sooo painful and makes your lips bleed, plus may lead to scarring. Seriously just keep applying lip balm and medicinal chapped lip cream and eventually it will clear up. Don't lick your lips either because I know when I had dry lips it's very tempting to keep licking your lips to relieve the dry feeling. Just have a pot of lip balm wherever you go and just keep applying it. Good luck with everything xxx

Blistex Relief Cream - I swear by it.

I've had dry lips for about 3 years now :p: Combination of working in air conditioned theatres that dry you out generally, and diving... the air is really dry.

I use some Nivea stuff, the green one

I use Vaseline, has worked so far...
