Hey guys,

Can anyone be so kind as to explain why Carbon-12, is the standard measurement for atomic masses? Why isn't it oxygen-16?

Thank you!

The relative atomic mass is almost exactly 12, whereas for other elements they're all decimals. Using Carbon just makes things simpler.
