Fallowfield where most of the student social scene takes place, Victoria Park is a bit more isolated and is for the quiet life.

Neither a the nicest parts of Manchester (Victoria Park has always been rough) but Fallowfield at least has great bars and shops.

Would like to know everyone's opinion on the best self catered hall in either Victoria Park or Fallowfield?

Looking especially for good social scene, mixed (why wouldn't you?!) and close to sporting facilities i.e. football/rugby pitches and gyms. I think Oak house is my favourite at the moment.

I can only really talk about Fallowfield. I am living in Richmond Park and whilst I have some lovely friends in Oak House, I am always glad when I come home to my nice, modern, en-suite room in Richmond Park.

The social scene, like that of all halls in Fallowfield, is everything you want it to be. Being a smaller hall, it has perhaps less onsite events than elsewhere. But because of the nature of hall living, you will be just as welcome at Oak House and Owen's Park nights. We also have the benefit of being able to have a quite nights sleep when we come home.

Regards sporting facilities, I can look out my window at the Armitage Centre which is the main sporting centre for the uni. The walk takes 2 minutes. No hall is closer.

Some really useful information thanks. Richmond Park is probably my second favourite only because of the fact that it is about an extra 20 quid a week because they're en suite. I'm doing architecture and the course is seven years and I'm gonna be in a whole heap of debt at the end (bring out the violins!) but would you say that having an en suite is worth it?

If you are even going to spend one night of the entire year pissed out your mind in the flat... you will be so grateful you have your own toilet to be sick in.

Joking aside, there is certainly something nice about having a bathroom you know will be in the state it was when you left it, and which will always be free for you to use.

the joke is that hangovers are sodding awful and it wouldn't be nice to have to be sick in a toilet that everyone shares. If you don't understand that then you're in for a nice suprise when you go to uni!
yeah i think you've got a good point Tednol, it would be really nasty If you wanted a shower after coming back from the gym and it was in a right state, better safe than sorry
