Ear syringing

Has anybody had their ears syringed? I think I need mine done, my right ear feels kinda like it's popped and I keep going sort of off balance and light headed :frown: . I know you can get it done at NHS drop in centres by appointment, but I should prolly go the doctors and get my hearing checked aswel. I'm worried I've ruined my hearing with earphones and such....
Well tell me what you know ppl, does it hurt?

no doesnt hurt at all, feels abit strange for a while and when you walk out you will be suprised at just how much more you can hear

I used to have mine done regularly when I was younger. It doesn't hurt, it's a strange feeling, but it's not painful. I was about 7 the last time, and it didn't hurt then so I'm sure it'll be fine!

gdgd, glad it doesn't hurt! I'm not sure if I do need them syringed tho. Cos I can hear pretty much ok, it just feels wierd...

go see a doctor and they'll tell you whether you need it done or not  (sorry to state the obvious lol :p: )

lol, yeh prob the best thing to do, I just got a little problem with that cos I'm goin uni this friday, so I don't know how long it'll take me to get an appointment.
Should have mentioned that before sorry...

ah I see, does your uni have a surgery you can go to? mine does, I just haven't had time to sign up yet lol (and I've been here since the 26th!) :p:

I should probably get mine syringed, they keep blocking up for weeks on end and I cant hear anything

Never get round to it though

It tickles, but doesn't hurt at all. I did it once when one of my ears kept getting blocked all the time, but there wasn't anything in it is so it must have been fluid behind the ear drum I suppose.

You don't even need a doctor's appointment because the nurses can do it for you.

Sure you don't have a wee ear infection? The symptoms of "popped" ear (I'm guessing you mean like on a plane) and slight loss of balance would suggest that? blocked eustachian tube. ear syringing isn't gonna fix that.

I've had a letter saying I can sign up for a doctor but I prolly wont get round to it lol

ear syringing is the best fun in the world, I genuinely wish I had waxy ears, I went once and I couldn't stop talking about it. I signed up for my uni doctor today in about 3 minutes, its definitely worth going!

Is your hearing fuzzy and does it feel kinda like when you've got water in your ear after swimming? I had this last week and it turned out to be blocked eustachian tubes. There's nothing you can do about it really, just have to wait for it to clear up itself. But you should definitely go and see your doctor incase it is wax or an infection. When I was speaking to my doctor on the phone (I had to go see him the day I got it cause I was flying that night) he thought by how I was explaining it is was gonna be wax ... so def go get it checked out incase it is!

Yeh, is a bit like I got water in it and my hearing is fuzzy. Best I go doctors then and have it checked out first, is possible that I just have an ear infection, I don't normally have waxy ears!

My left ear keeps getting blocked. When I wake up during the night, if I have been lying on it, I can't hear a thing!

Think I need my syringing but I daren't go. I have had them syringed when I was little - but I was braver when I was younger haha.

Get some ear drops from the chemists, the ones that release oxygen which loosens the wax. Drop them in one of your ears when you lie down to go to sleep and let them work their magic over night, then do the other ear the next night if needs be. A day or two later, you will notice a load of black wax coming out of your ear - that normally does the trick. If you've still got a lot of wax in there then you might need syringing - but again put the eardrops in for a few days before you go so the wax is loose and it will all come out when you have it syringed.

Syringing itself feels a bit funny but it doesnt hurt, it feels like your deep underwater with the water pressure high. When you've had it done and all the wax is gone you might feel slightly weird for teh rest of the day, sometimes your ears ache slightly from the pressure and your balance can be a bit affected when its all gone, but by the next morning you will be back to normal and your hearing will be much sharper.

Eurgh! lol, ok I will try the eardrops and is that fails, the doctor, thanks for the ear advice everyone.

yeah Im not kidding, a good way to do it is about a day or two after you've started doing the ear drops, when you're in the shower, aim the hot water inside there, its like your own home syringing, then gently put your little finger in (long nails are a no no) and you'll get loads of black gunk out - you will be amazed how much comes out if you are proper waxed up in there. I have been syringed twice, in 1994 and 2000....so I suppose im due another one now, but I tend to do the ear drops treatment every couple of years and its been keeping it at bay

haha, euw, but I'll try it lol

I thought the alternative sounded better but it sucked. Putting oil into you ear everyday is rubbish, i gave up on it on the first day... I'd rather have earwax
