Don't know about supermarkets, but just had to comment to congratulate you on your 'Wicked' quote-i love the songs in that musical! Never managed to find anyone else who has heard of it!

You don't need to really get a taxi food shopping unless you don't want to carry any bags! Supermarket options are;

Co-op - just off campus, about a 10/15 minute walk from most accomodation. It's rather small, however.

Tesco Express - right next to the co-op (part of the Tesco petrol station).

Tesco Metro - in the city centre (therefore accessible by bus, the 26 and 27 drop you off right by the door but you have to walk to Castle Meadow to get the bus back - it's not far though). Gets very busy, especially at weekends, but stocks most things you could need, and is useful if you're in the city anyway.

Sainsbury's - there's one in the city centre - take the 25/26/27 bus to the bus station and walk out under the hotel to your left (the exit to the right goes into the main shopping area). You should see Sainsbury's straight infront of you (it's fairly large).

Iceland - again it's in the centre, and is just on the corner of St Stephens street with the ring road. Walk out the bus station under the hotel, turn right and walk along and you'll see it on the corner after about 100m.

Morrisons - not right in the centre but it's by the Riverside development. Bonus is the 25 bus stops and picks up right outside the entrance to it (if you go here, don't be alarmed the first time you go when the bus goes on a seemingly random route after stopping at the station - its just a big circle basically so stay on and you'll see Morrisons when it turns into the Riverside retail park).

If you have access to a car (ie when your parents drop you off) you have 2 other options;

Tesco - there's a large Tesco on the Ipswich road (A140) which is handy to get to (though more so if you live in the Unthank Road area).

Asda - there's a massive Asda on the ring road towards the airport (I think), about a 10 minute drive from campus.

If you're planning to get your parents take you shopping it might be worth going onto supermarket websites and printing off maps/directions to stores near campus - its much better than turning up and asking a student helper for directions (they'll just go "errr, up there, left then along a bit" - i've been there and done that!).

Hope that helps! (Bloody hell, I've written a LOT about supermarkets :eek: :redface: )

There is a Waitrose too, about a mile away apparently. Ideal if you're looking for something a little special.

Yeah its out towards Eaton, Plus the M&S in the town centre has a pretty big food hall, if you've got a bigger budget. It's not just food, it's M&S food :wink:

Most people coming to norwich from "main land" UK will pass either Asda (if coming from the North) or Sainsbury (from West). From the south theres notmuch before you get to the Uni campus. You will only pass Tescos is coming from the Norfolk coast.

Asda is on the outer ringroad (Search google map for "norwich asda" and its result B). It is purely Asda, nothing else there, although about 2 minutes drive away is PCWorld and Currys. So if you happen to have forgotten the power cable for your PC, you wont have to wait for your parents to send you one, or for you to find a computer store.

Sainsbury (Search google map for "norwich sainsbury" and its result F) is next door to a couple of other stores. There is Staples and The Raneg from what i remmember. The Range is a massive shop which has everything in it from sofas to coloured crayons to kitchen utensils.

There's also an Aldi on the corner of Dereham road and Larkman Lane which is walkable from campus, but thats more of a second year place to go if youre out that way (like me)
