Why do people hate hipsters?

Serious q here. I've been called it as an insult before as has my partner and friends. From what I understand it's just an unconventional person...so why so much hate lol? Just seems "****ing hipster" is used as a retort when someone makes a valid point about a societal norm being negative so people feel uncomfortable because they can't think for themselves and their delusion is being smashed.

Any logical reason for hipster hate guys?

i think it's the perceived and apparent superiority that is associated with someone deemed a "hipster". it's actually not harmful or problematic at all, just often pretentious.

Interesting. In what way?

It's because in general, hipsters are the opposite of what they think they are. They're generally not unconventional at all - but present themselves as though they are.

it's cos the more vocal hipsters make a big point of showing how they know how you've been brainwashed by the mainstream media and they're above all that, etc. annoying not like I didn't think capitalism is unfair by the time I was 13

or they wear stupid hats and think 'lol i'm so radical/revolutionary/ironic'

I say this as a slight hipster

most people started wearing hipster clothes in college/end of secondary school, before they wore normal clothing
give it a few years and i can guarantee they will be wearing normal clothing, its just a phase to appear 'edgy' and 'unique'
people that are hipsters in there 20's just look like mugs

my mum was a 'hipster' but she actually lived in the era when it began and listened to the music at the time when it was normal

Its their smug faces, vegan diet, tiny feet and sawdust bedding.

Oh wait... that's hamsters.

I expect a large proportion of it is a way for people unable (and/or unwilling) to think for themselves to feel better about themselves.

Critical thinkers are not going to uncritically swallow societal norms without critique, while sheeple are going to bash anyone who doesn't "get with the system", finding fault with the individual instead of the system. It's apparent that anti-intellectualism plays a big part.
They will seem to think that they are better than everybody else who is "following the system". As well as the fact that they think they are so unique and indie because they wear ironic tee-shirts and thick rimmed glasses when they're just like everybody else.

yes but me wearing a goofy hat does not make me the next ****ing Voltaire no matter how "ironic" it is to wear my baseball cap backwards in 2014

(which is what I mean by the vocal hipsters)

they think there being different is a reason for superiority itself, when really its just a difference e.g. 'omg you go starbucks, how vile and degrading to your body! I only visit a boutique coffee shop where they import their coffee beans from a specialist pig farm in Milan. Im so cool!'

A hipster is not hip unless they also hate other hipsters, which then makes them un-hip. It's impossible to win and it's so unoriginal and conformative..

Why is it attention seeking to wear clothes you like?

Also judging by your posts you seem the kind of guy who thinks stealing a traffic cone and pissing in a plantpot is the height of wit, so this doesn't apply to you
