We don't know which colleges are full or not, only Durham admissions staff can tell you that. But I'd guess you'd be likely to get put in either Butler, Mary's or St Cuth's, but don't quote me on that.

Absolutely not!
Both Butler and Mary's are my preferences.

E-mail the individual Colleges. I know that St. Johns still has places, as well as Hild & Bede.

But which college is the number of CS students most in?
Hi

Could anyone help me out?

I received an offer to study BA Business at Durham in Oct 07, the offer is AAC. Even though I achieved this at A.S. I am not so confident at A2.

If I were to get lower grades e.g ABC, or AAD, would I be rejected automatically, or would I be able to plead my case on the phone? I know I should be asking Durham this, but when I went to the open day, nobody gave straight answers.

Has anyone on this forum gone to Durham, with lower grades than the offer?

Any help is appreciated.

Omar

If you don't get them, you should ring up, but I know for History certainly, (AAA), they said that even if you were a mark off, you probably wouldn't get in.

Yes, but that's also because History is a lot more competitive than Business is (at least at Durham). It is very difficult indeed to give you a specific answer. You will, unfortunately, just need to be patient and work your butt off to get the grades. Whether you get in even if you miss your grades depends on a lot of factors.
I think Stockton campus would be more lenient than Durham. Durham normally don't let in anyone who misses their grades.

I'm not sure, but that shouldn't affect your decision. Another pointer I'd like to say is that when making your decision on the college, the distance from the Science faculty should not matter. Durham is not big, and you won't be that far away no matter where your college is.

I also just received an E-mail from St. Chad's. There are no vacancies for next year. Therefore, St Hild and Bede and St. John's definitely have vacancies. University College and St. Chad's don't.

How do you know this? Although I'm very happy with my choice of college, I'm thinking I might prefer a slightly more traditional one, so if I can wriggle into John's it might be good!

I e-mailed them regarding this. But bear in mind this is only for CS. I'm not sure if they have free places for Law.

Ye not too keen on that myself (given that I'm Jewish)- I hope they don't try and convert me!

I have to admit I didn't do enough homework on the college issue and I realised I'm kind of quite enamored with the idea of a matriculation with a gown and then formals with gowns as well. Plus it's so much closer to the Law Department (I know that's a bad excuse, but what the hell).

Does anyone know what the rooms are like in John's, and also the facilities. I don't want to just rush in completely blind. If I can get them to hold a place for me (if on the off chance I they have one, then maybe I can go up some point soon and have a look for myself.

Still, if I end up at Collingwood I won't be too unhappy, it's still a nice college.

I don't think they will try and convert you. It's religious, but also secular .
