Anyone know what bike storage is like at The Lawns? I heard that we can't keep them in our rooms, so is there a proper place for them? Or do we just have to lock them to the fence and hope for the best?

Bikes
Our student residences have lockable bicycle sheds. Bikes may not be
left in hallways or bedrooms. If you do wish to bring a bike, please
ensure that you have it security marked and bring a strong lock. You
are also advised to top-up the basic insurance package to cover your
bike

(I got that from the 2012 pre-arrival guide, I doubt it's changed)

The uni will also be providing free bike maintenance sessions, see here.

Exactly what I thought it'd be. I'll probably get an extra lock, seeing as my paranoia concerning my bike won't let me keep it in a bike shed without something that could hold a ships anchor :P

Have you registered your bike on Immobilise? It's free to do so.

This online checking service is used by all UK Police forces to trace owners of lost and stolen property. In addition Immobilise is checked daily by a huge range of recovery agencies and lost property offices.
If your bike was stolen (touch wood it won't be) and then recovered, the police have a much better chance of returning it to you.

To add to the point about immobilise, this is usually pushed a lot in Freshers week and they usually hand out free UV pens to write on all your stuff.
