One person in this thread so far has said that Muslims shouldn't be able to wear the Hijab in this country, and that particular person was mistaken in what a Hijab actually is and meant only the face-covering veil. Nobody is arguing that Muslims shouldn't be able to cover their hair. This entire argument is covering of the face.

The discussion is on IC's policy of not allowing clothing that covers the face. If there is no argument against the thought that this is the correct policy then there is no reason to continue with this thread.

They might as well come out and say they think we are all going to take off our hijabs and blow them like a suicide bomber.

i was born and raised in pakistan...?

How did this ever happen?

How ?
Because your fellow Pakistanis trained terrorists and suicide bombers who attacked civilians around the world.
You're arguing that because some terrorists were trained in Pakistan, all Pakistanis should be considered terrorists?

This is the same as saying that because some drivers kill pedestrians, all drivers are murderers.
Reply 45
Bad example im afraid - those are accidents, whereas individuals are receiving state help in training for terrorism. Without the intent, they're not nearly the same.

Call me pedantic or what lol...

I agree, if someone is shouting out what you described then yes they should leave. Though I don't agree that you can't be both British and muslim. You may consider the vail as extreme, some don't.

I don't agree that you can't be both British and Muslim, either. I do however, think that if you fall on the extreme side of moderate then the two may start to conflict, and that is very dangerous. Then there is a very real possibility of a progression to favouring their Muslim beliefs over British social norms, and then over British law. And they will think it is their duty to effect change on Britain, as it is us who are wrong. I disagree, and I think they should be made to leave.

This is a perfect example of a foreigner telling us how we should live our lives 0 love2learn7 if you don't like it here and can't adapt to the way britain (in terms of practising followers is actually a muslim country. It's written on the government statistics website if you don't believe me).

And now you come on here calling me **** - you must have been self taught by a frog, because you have the intelligence of one.

I was born and raised in oldham, and am a proud british citizen despite the fact i am from pakistan. I would die for the right to protect britain and the Queen, although i probably wouldnt go and blow up innocent people for her unless we were in a war.

love2learn7 is just a racist with no knowledge of what he is talking about - so he sees what he calls a 'coon' in the Sun next to a topless woman teaching some children, and thinks that she shouldn't be teaching them dressed like that. Why - because it would scare him! Ridiculous,...I wonder if he's scared when he goes into a shop and there's someone with different colour skin to him.

love2ignorance more like - go back home and leave britain. get out of my bloody country!!!:tsr2:

Jesus, why use your first 4 posts on TSR with **** like that?!

Redadair, you're obviously incredibly confused, so just stop posting in this thread... Honestly.

Also if you were born and raised in England, I fail to see how your English could be so incomprehensible and grammatically incorrect. (some smart arse is bound to find something in mine now lol! :p: )

I seriously doubt that the page3 model was teaching the children ... I wish my teachers were, but that’s another story for another day! :p:

Finally if you are going to try and represent a view of the majority in Britain, you hold no right to tell others to leave this country on such specious grounds, and when you are so obviously in the minority.

^^ But love2learn has this right yeh?

In conclusion I think both parties should stop debating or arguing about this subject due to the fact they clearly do not know what they are talking about.

group hug anyone? i think the people in this thread need one...

and eloquence, i know a lot about this subject too! that makes 2 of us!

you woulodn't be saying this if you'd just been arrested for wearing a hat someone didn't like, as I was when I was wearing my BRITISH hijab in london the other day!

I was also internally abused by three youths wearing hoodies because of a)who I am, b)what I am, c)because of who and what I am. It's outrageous to think that these kids were at university in britain probably doing a stupid degree like english or sociology (yes, take one).

How can racists be allowed to live in universities here? They're supposed to be enlightened individuals...but they would probably end up making nazi salutes as they graduate with a 3rd in David beckham studies!

All I'm saying is - we're all racists. Even I'm tired of seeing muslims going rounds acting like they own the place...but you cannot act on racist thoughts under any circumstances. It's not on. Let people wear what they want, if they want to wear sandals, slipknot jumpers or a british hijab, it's fine by me, as long as you don't go flunking it in my face.

I just wish to add another perspective to the debate:

It is considered "fascist", fundamenatlistic and as an intrusion on liberty and personal freedom, that hijab or veil is suggested compulsary in Islam. What about the compulsion to wear clothes in UK? If someone walks naked in central London they would soon be taken in by the police. Isn't this an intrusion on personal freedom as well?

Also, regarding adaption to the culture one comes to; several members have emphasised that they would adapt to muslim dresscode if they went to a islamic country. I ask them: would you adapt to the dresscode of the african tribes where people go around naked, if you are there with your family?

Just another perspective on the issue which is rarely discussed...

Unbelievable.

Why would anyone who wears a burqa or hijab walk naked around the streets of central london! What dare you! Those clothes are to protect the modesty of someone, not to let people peep at their naked genitals.

Are you suggesting all African people walk around naked as well? Have you ever been to Africa. I have been to Africa, and the people of Africa wear reeboks, nikes, stone island, just as people here and abroad do...they don't all have banana skin shoes and coconut trousers!

Another blinkered opinion.

As your previous posts, this was just as confused and ridiculous... I will do us all a favour and ignore your posts...

No muslim should wear it, i dont care if they were born in britain with foreign parents, born abroad, or british parents and converted to islam. We dont want it here and its intimidating!

I was skimming through this thread and I thought this little gem was bloody hilarious - by 'we' you presumably mean Daily Express readers

Listen (or more accurately Read ), I also believe the veil hardly puts the women who actively choose to wear it in the best position to be full members of this particular society - where the face is integral to communication and forming relationships. But surely, all this frenetic hand-wringing is only going to alienate the women who elect to wear it (as they are - quite importantly - free citizens of this country love2learn7) and convince them they made the right decision and that their freedoms are more secure with them being segregated. What better explanation could their be for the surge in women choosing to take up the veil, sometimes as a direct form of protest, in light of recent events around the world?

And this talk of 'foreign values' is interesting. Consider this, that while the veil may be strange to many people living here, passing laws on what people can and cannot wear in normal circumstances is a Gallic and Germanic principle also quite 'foreign' to this country along with ID cards and the like. Following it would redefine the role of Government in people's everyday lives and set a precedent the vast majority people would not approve of and come to regret. However I think where a company, school etc. takes decent steps to reconcile someone's religious beliefs and health & safety/uniform requirements, and someone still wants to kick up a fuss then it's quite out of order.

Finally, redadair what have you been puffing? :eek4:

In New York it's legal for women to be shirtless (as it is for men of course)... This site: don't click if you don't want a topless woman to appear on your screen (but it's art, not pornography) shows some, but I don't know how many women really do walk round shirtless. Some of the quotes are interesting:
"Don't confuse nudity with sexuality. When you take your clothes off, you are what you are. You aren't hiding anything."
"Moral responsibility is what is lacking from a man when he demands it of a woman."

There are people that don't wear clothes, including some in remote areas of Africa (and, I think, South America). There's also nudist resorts in many countries, and in much of Europe people swim nude (at swimming pools etc).

"If God had meant us to be naked, we wouldn't have been born with clothes."
